It was HORRIBLE!!

I agree with MissPrissy. Mother nature can be hard and cruel, but it's the way of life for some animals. Sorry about your baby

I would of probably started crying myself if that happened to me

I second the motion on MissPrissy. We must learn to the things that happen to as in that way we can do better for the next time. . .

If that things have to i would eventually run for im so someone is killed in front of me. . Im so sorry for her

Hi all
Thank-you for all the support and words of wisdom..I will sit her down and explain to her as everyone is right, it is a good lesson about how the food chain works...I was too upset yesterday to even of thought of that....I am wondering though is it okay to leave them in their house[it is very big inside]until Friday because then I could grab some netting...If not I could let them out and just sit with them until they have had their exercise..just not to sure
Many Thanks

I only let the chicks out if I'm outside to watch over them.

Last week I walked down to check on the garden while they played. I was within 25' of them. When I turned around I saw a hawk hovering over my babies! Luckily, it scared it when I began running up the yard towards it. It didn't get one of my babies, but it reminded me that staying close is best, since things happen very quickly in the animal kingdom!

I'm so sorry about your chick. What a terrible thing to have to witness but go for it and explain the food chain to your child.

I once went to a bird rehab place and they were feeding baby chicks to the hawks. I'll never get over seeing that although I know it something that has to be done. I asked them why they didn't just use mice and they said they use those, too!

I used some old alminum framed window screens to cover my outdoor chick pen- they were free, and they work great- put a piece of 2x4 over it to hold it down, and nothing can bother my babies while they are enjoying the nice weather...
