Hello

with the heat index it 114 degress, 104 normal...what to do, our chickens (show) are overheating left and right. I have one inside in a dry bathtub, its really cool in the tub, But I cant bring all 30 chickens in.

1. put frozen bottles of water n coop
2. put fan on them
3. filled a plastic pool with cold well water and have the fan blowing on them.

HELP...dont know what else to try.

I have a mister system in the shade, made from a few parts my husband got from the hardware store, a stick of pvc, some connectors, and mister valves. it not only helps drop the air temp, but also give a damp place on the ground for them to sit.

I know stores like Lowe's has mister tubing too.

You can give them frozen melon halves, frozen fruit (strawberries are great, and cheap), frozen corn, ice water to walk in, a hole soaked with water to 'bathe' in (they seem to love deep wet holes!), and big batter bowls filled with fruit and seeds, then frozen full of water. You can also hose down the foliage in the area to give them a temporary microclimate.

It's really tough this time of year. I have a bunch of kitty litter jugs frozen full of ice in my small coops to make the coops a bit cooler. They like to go inside with these hillbilly airconditioners.

Good luck!
