ditto - 228 MILLION eggs recalled? (ajc report) I can't even imagine the factory processes involved for that cross contamination nightmare. That's 19 million dozens. I'm not able to wrap my head around the sheer amount. How long of a production period was that? a week, a month?

I currently have four hens. I did buy 2 dozen eggs from the store yesterday to devil (not near as tasty as home grown).

Yet another reason to grown my own. Next year, with the new coop, more chicks. Yay!

If the cost of store bought eggs go up... I look at that as a good thing... you may be able to get more for selling your own eggs!

I read about the egg illnesses too. First thing was to give my mom and other elders around me some eggs,so they don't buy the germy ones.

If that's the case I'm going to buy some more chickens. It's hard to find people that will buy eggs for 3.00 a dozen, when they can pay 1.29 for factory eggs. Most people don't realize how much better our eggs are than factory eggs. Maybe it will encourage more people to get chickens on their little spreads and their backyards.
