It's a freakin blizzard out there!!!

We are getting hammered right now, and not in the good way involving alcohol. The wind is howling, the gutters are rattling and the snow is banging against the side of the house like gravel. We're currently at -6F with the windchill.

Well, I shoveled 12" off our deck yesterday and there is already 5"+ of new snow out there. We have a Winter Storm Warning for "near blizzard" conditions, but at the rate it's falling now, they're thinking of upgrading this storm to "blizzard." Wind speed here is about 20-25 mph (by observation via the Beaufort Scale). The wind is supposed to pick up this afternoon and continue overnight with lots of blowing and drifting.

I don't mind because I LOVE severe weather. My husband is going to be ticked off, though. He hates snow.

We got a few more inches of snow last night and and ice storm on top of it. The driveway looks like a sheet of glass in the light from the outside lamps. Chains are required in the area.

Chains are now required in the Portland metropolitan area. According to our backyard thermometer it's 13 degrees. Lots of snow with a coating of ice on top. I love it! A good day to stay inside and bake cookies, as long as we have power.

Cracking ducks out of the ice.
