It's A Miracle!

My black cochin hen, Kiwi died last month, but not before she laid an egg. My other hen laid 9 eggs next to Kiwi's and began brooding them exactly 14 days after Kiwi died. Kiwi's egg was large and brown, and Suzie's were white and small.

Kiwi's egg hatched this morning. So far the only one....but I'm hopeful Susie's will hatch too, since she took care of Kiwi's egg.

I cried when Kiwi died, but today we have a little miracle!

Aww, that's great. I lost a hen to a racoon several months ago and she was setting on a nest of eggs. I tried to incubate them for her since she was my favorite. They never did hatch.
