First timer...This is going to be a long 21 days! Received my Black Copper Maran eggs today..(11 eggs look ok..1 cracked open)...Hope they didn't get too cold. I keep looking at them..then checking the incubator...walk away...check the incubator...look at the eggs..etc...I'm already feeling maternal

I am praying that I do everything right and these babies hatch! It's after 1 am and I'm on BYC. Planning on setting them in the incubator later today (18-24 hours after I unpacked them)...I'm running 2 humidifiers in the room..check the humidifiers...look at the eggs..check the incubator...look at the eggs...

You're not the only one! I'm still waiting for a few more who pipped to hatch and having to walk out to the barn waiting for a Lamancha doe to deliver, so am still online too! Was reading until 4 am last night. LOL Good luck with your Marans. I ended up buying 4 black marans and 2 blue juvenilles from craigslist last week since the eggs are so darned expensive on Ebay and eggbid, and I got the juvinilles for $10 each. I just love the Marans.

There are more opinions about humidity around here than there are members, but dont get to carried away. To much humidity and they will drown when they are trying to break out.

How eggciting! I know, I told myself I would be in bed early tonight, but I have my chicks to be excted about now that they are all settled in and doing well and it's fun to hear about everyone else's chicky ventures! Too much fun!

Good luck with your eggs. I wish I had hatched mine from eggs, but I got impatient and ordered mine as day olds. Its so much more fun going through the hatching process. Its work, but its fun work! Good luck!

Oh and an inspiring hatching story for you...I live in so calif and my Grandpa lives in Arizona. He took his boat to the shop and once he got it home he found a quails nest on the boat that he did not know was there prior to moving the boat. Needless to say, Mama quail abandoned her nest and never came back after it was disturbed. I ended up taking the eggs and packing them up as well as I could. They ended up being away from the nest for 5 days before I was able to transport them home to so Cal and get them home to my incubator. I got them in the bator and low and behold out of those 7 eggs I actually had 1 hatch. I wasn't expecting much, but was delighted to have that little guy. He grew up to be quite the ladies man after we got him some lady companions.

Just thought I would share that story. Sometimes its amazing what they can survive through. It's always exciting and a little frustrating because you never know what to expect! I guess I am rambbling and ought to get to bed.

Good luck with your eggs! Goodnight ya'll!

Cute story Miss Dottie. Makes me feel better since it's my first time too. I'm on Day 5 and a nervous wreck (and my eggs are under a couple broody hens! I'm not doing any of the work!). It's only 10:12 here so I have a few more BYCing to do! LOL Goodnight!

Thank you! I'm so excited!
I have the LG with a forced air fan and automatic egg turner. I've been able to maintain a steady temp for 3 days now. I am assuming (..and you know where that leads..) that once I put the eggs in the incubator, the temp and humidity will rise a little bit. Is this correct?
