10 - 1 they won't use the new ones. LOL Silly hens. I have seen 7 or 8 at one time trying to pile into a nest box to lay.

i have 2 nesting boxes for 4 hens. They all use the same box regularly even though I have 2 broodies in that one right now!!!

Great pic! Mine do the same thing. I have 3 nests for 8 chickens in one coop and they all insist on using the same nest. One time I found 3 hens in it at the same time.

Yeah, they always seem to pick a favorite nest, then everyone wants it! In my experience, it's usually the darkest one or the one furthest into a corner.

It reminds me of our house. We have three bathrooms, however everyone always wants to use the same one at the same time. Drives me nuts!!!

Just take out the dividers, then they won't have anything to fight over! Give them a bit more straw to throw around if they want privacy!

We have 7 hens. They all lay in 1 box. My husband built 4 but they all prefer the 1.

It is funny because it is the same box they all nested in together when they were just a couple weeks old and the heat lamp was directly above them. At that time they all fit in one...they were so cute.

Hi,

The exact same thing happens here! I have 3 broody Silkies right now (all in one nest) and then the others also try to lay in the same nest.

One time, I saw one of my Leghorns trying to lay with the Silkies and she couldn't fit in there very well. So she spread her wings over the Silkies so she could fit. It really looked silly with the Silkie's little heads sticking out, kind of like they were the Leghorn's babies under her wings!

When the Leghorn finally laid her egg, one of the Silkies immediately "stole" it with her foot and rolled it right under her. The Leghorn got up, looked around, and appeared to be very puzzled as to what happened to her egg. It was like she was saying "Where did it go?" I had a really good laugh over that one!

These chickens sure can be funny! Genie
