It's been over 24 hours and still looks like this!

Please do! I had to help a chick from my last hatch. He was splay legged. After 4 days of treatment though hes running around like a normal chick!

Aww that's great!! Well I can barely contain myself here....this poor little guy has still made no more progress he is alive in there, moving and chirping away but just can't break through! Ughhhhh

You may end up having to help him all the way out. Did you read that link I posted? Great info there.

Also if you can see the chick himself make sure he is still wet. Mine started drying in the shell and hadn't made progress for over 2 hrs before I decided enough was enough, and he wasnt going to make it without help. The combo of his splay legs and getting dry and stuck made it so he couldn't move to hatch.

I have made an artificial zip line before by removing the shell and outer membrane, leaving the inner membrane with blood vessels in it, taking only the shell and membrane within/ associated with the air cell. Then they can usually bust out when they are ready.

I did!! Great article and helped a lot! So I did help him as much as I was comfortable. I peeled back the shell and a little membrane from airspace....so now he has his beak poking out. But STILL he is just not making any progress. I'm so nervous to do anymore....but I think I need to

When I start peeling the outer membrane it seems to peel the inner as well...if it's not bleeding do you think it's safe to keep peeling off?

I was super nervous too, but read that article like 5 times, then got a rag, a few q tips, a cup of warm water, and my tweezers(which I sanitized with alcohol), and say down and started chipping away. I ran into no veins, no yolk sac and no problem . Beyond the chick being splay legged. I was super glad I decided to help. Just go slow and pay attention.
