I got the idea on this fantastic forum, just like everything else (ginormous feeder that allows them to feed themselves for a month !!!!).

It's just an old planter, soil, grass, and a screen tacked over it so that they can't pull it up by the roots.
I had read how good grass is for chickens, but since I am eliminating all grass from our property, I wanted to be able to let them still have access to some. A poster here made the suggestion.​
