As for the sockets, you might consider spending the 4 bucks on ceramic light bulb mounts at the hardware store. The socket itself is raised so the base attached to wood would not get hot and potentially start a fire. I used sockets in my mini incubator.

Couple other things -

I checked the temp on the hatching level. It is exactly the same as on the turner level. So I am good there.


From your concerns about heat I ran over & touched the ceramic - the bator has been up & running constantly for a week now while I work out the kinks - they were cool to the touch from the outside.

I would expect them to be hotter on the inside - but certainly not hot enough to start a fire. Heck - I have trouble starting a fire in the fire place with newspapers & matches. A hot light bulb will not get that hot! no worries!

sorry about this, but unless you put that in a steady 70 degree place, i dont think it will be to great, i think you will need a way bigger fan for the size of that incubator

I have had this guy up & running for over a week now & have taken temps at various locations & elevations inside. It seems to be pretty steady no matter where I put it.

Plus - its set up in the basement - house heat is set on 70 but is a little cooler down here. I have a good handle on the humidity & the temps run really steady with the thermostat. 99.0 to 101 & back again.

The little computer fan moves a lot of air. I'm more worried about the cold the eggs had to travel through to get to my house.

I did bring them up to room temp before placing in the bator. they were pretty cold.

By the way - these are due on Thursday February 3rd, but because of the evening set - It will probably be Friday February 4th then they pop! If any do.

My temp is just a tad low - but I don't want to mess around with getting it too hot so mine will probably go a day or two long. I may not be able to stand it that long though.

right now its going from a low of 98.4 to 100.0. I could probably get it up 1 degree but its really hard to tell how much to move the thermo for 1 degree.

I'm switching to a $20 digital for my next batch.

Having it be cheap is cool, but having better control is better.
