It's Friday, the 13th... and setting eggs

I did a candling last night and found that all of them but three died. Two weren't fertile, and four died about day 7. About 5 died at day 2 or 3.

Out of the three left only one I am positive that it is still alive, the shells on the other two are still quite dark so I can't tell for sure.

I had about 14 guinea eggs in there.

I'm sorry to hear this... i think my 2 batches of diff eggs from diff people... are not doing so well either...but being positive, I'm leaving them in the bators just to make sure...good luck with the rest of your eggs.

I'm right there with you, Neheigh. Very nervous. Lockdown is today for me. I followed Henthusiasts' cheat sheet, filling all channels with paper towel to act as a wick, then with warm water. I placed the eggs upright in trimmed down paper egg cartons: 8 welsummer, 4 bbs marans, 7 bbs ameraucana, 7 wheaten ameraucana, 1 cuckoo marans. The air cells on the welsummer and bbs ameraucana, the shipped eggs, remained extra large and wiggly throughout incubation, not sure what that means for hatching. I'm most confident in the non-shipped eggs, but I remain hopeful about the others.

Well, my big mean cochin has gone broody. I'm thinking about giving her my hatching eggs, since I seem to be having problems with my incubator. I also have a broody silkie, but she decided to go broody on the floor of my coop. I'm not sure if I should give her any too. My concern is that I sprinkle seven dust in my nest boxes. Will that mess with the eggs or babies, should they hatch?

well mine are due today running through until friday : / so its a waiting game as qauil eggs have been known to hatch as late as day 21 will have to wait and see

OMG OMG OMG we have just had a power cut :$ only lasted 30 mins but i hope it doesnt hurt the chicks i covered the bator in tin foil and then blankets to try and keep the heat in it, the temp didnt drop too low but now im worried there all dead :'(

If its only 30 min they should be alright. Your hatch may be a little late but they won't die. They can cool down for up to 6 hours before they start dying. Remember, eggs are denser than air, so the thermometer might say it's 70*, but it's only measuring the air temp, not the internal egg temp. Good luck!
