It's going to be super cold.

The wind had died considerably down compared to this afternoon and last night. But yes it's frigid here. It may hit the low 30's by Thursday,,it'll be past time to move the dogs back outside, peas are much less maintenance in many respects

So you recommend the German shepherds? Wolves are my favorite animal but I am not crazy enough to own a wolf dog, so I always thought a German shepherd would be great to have in the future. My friend's dad was a part of the K-9 unit and they had a great German shepherd. Anyways, just a random question since you have been mentioning the dogs. I don't know if they would fair so well in Florida though. I might just have to go with some kind of coon dog.

Minx, since the original breeder started working on this breed (Max vom Stephanitz) he had one purpose in mind, and that was to breed a service dog that is very loyal to their owners.Of course other reasons was bred into them as well. But because of their body style, they are the most used breed of dog for human services. Bomb and narcotics detection (can you see a 150lb Rottweiller climbing over rubble and rocks all day?) Search and rescue, seeing eye dogs, service dogs, protection dogs,,you name it this breed can do it.Some breeds such as Pit Bulls was bred for one purpose, and that sport is no longer an attraction,so that breed of dog now does not have a useful service-purpose because decades of breeding and culling has left a dog now trying to become adapted as family pets.
We got 2 x-mas cards this year from customers that told us how both of their dogs had saved them from would-be burglars, one was an elderly lady, the other was a family of 5 both living close to Chicago. Niether of these dogs was trained to be protection dogs, rather they love people and crave human affection..This is the only breed of dog I've owned, and that goes back to my high school days, over 30 years ago.so naturally we've made a lot of friends with customers all over the USA and several other worldwide locales. We get stories and pictures many here would say are fictitious,,but once you own a shepherd, you will more than likely always own a shepherd. Go to our website and see some of our dogs,,and yes there is diffrences between German Shepherds,,and we know we own the prettiest, most loving-devoted ones around here.

Anyone else experiencing weather like this? Two days straight so far. Good thing I fed my peas enough for a couple days!

1000

I don't have snow but my ponds have 1/2 inch of ice and my ducks and geese are trying to figure out why they can't float in the ponds.

Hunker down my friend, i am sending ya warm rays, might take a few days to get to ya as rain will be pushing them your way

Oddly enough, it's -20 Celsius here now, and by Saturday it's supposed to be +3 Celsius. But my pond has 8.5 inches of ice, enough to drive a car on!

Big heatwave coming here towards the end of this week,,lower 30's,,wooo-hooo!! Didn't fare too badly thru this bout of cold, but have some preperations to make before the next one comes.Last evening while cooking dinner I noticed the small stream we had running out the kitchen faucet was getting slower, and slower.A quick trip to the wellhouse proved that the wind had shifted out of the south, the same side the doors on and the 250 watt heat lite in there wasn't keeping up.Seems the small copper line from the pump to the pressure switch had frozen,so the electric motor couldn't kick on when the tank pressure got low enough.I quickly resolved that issue only to find the cold water in the back bathroom had quit.
Frozen pipes are no cake walk,if they stay that way too long they will eventually break, and if your not home to catch it the well will run all day and a lagoon will be under the house.Or while the water is shut off to make repairs the other pipes can freeze. Tonight I brought home a small lp gas heater,50,000 btu's and shoved it under the back bathroom and 20 minutes later water was flowing. Our darn housecat gets up on the bathroom sink and plays with the water stream, and I'm sure he's what caused the faucet to move enough to stop the small stream down to no water running at all, thus causing that line to freeze up.
