It's hatching day!!

Thanks for the good luck wishes....still no pip at all and I haven't seen/heard any activity for a couple of hours and I'm getting really nervous

I did end up making mine bleed a little, each time I tried to help them. I would quickly stop, put them back in, cross my fingers, and wait several more hours. I've made myself feel so sick about doing it.

On the positive side of things, so far, so good.

Good luck. I know how horrible this feels.

I ended up making a hole in one of the eggs just big enough to see the condition of the membrane. Its very, very thick and white like paper and dried out. I obviously have nothing compare it to being as I haven't hatched since I was a child so is this the condition it's supposed to be in?

I'm not an expert, but if the membrane is very thick and they can't seem to move, then they might be shrink wrapped. Someone else might be along with how to help them out.

The membrane is very dry if it looks like that. Can you give the eggs all a good spray with a fine mist of warm water? You may need to make a hole in each egg in order to spray directly onto the membrane. They will move much more freely while it is wet , and you will be able to see the veins - if there is still a lot of blood in them- the ducklings are not ready to hatch- so just keep wetting the membrane for them until they are.

Oh my gosh THANK YOU SO MUCH! The instant we wet the membrane on the first one there was a huge difference...it became clear and looked exactly how I thought it was supposed to look. Plus, the ducks because VERY active right away. I think you really just helped me save all of them so thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Just keep an eye on the veins- it would be wise to put a small hole in the airsac of each egg so you can wet the membrane directly- as even though some moisture does get through the shell- the part where the air sac is wont be effected as it is not against the shell. Dont do anything as far as peeling the shell or membrane back until there is virtually no blood left in the veins - as its too early. Good luck with those little ones..

Okay I moisented the membrane in all of them, only 2 still have visible blood still in the veins. I'll let them sit for a bit and if there still isn't any progress I'll start helping the ones that are clear...I'd really like them to do it on their own but I'm not going to let them die in there either.
