Its January when do we start ordering chicks??

Last year I placed my order at the end of january because the year before EVERYTHING i wanted was sold out! I ended up going with Murray/McMurray and was very happy with everyone, I ordered like 2 of this, 3 of that, 4 of this and had a BLAST doing it that way. They sent a few extra because the weekend they shipped we had a snowstorm, only 1 was dead on arrival but I still came out ahead. Am trying to restrain myself from ordering any this year as I just went out and counted 38 chickens total (including 3 full size roos and 2 banty roos) and 10 guineas and 3 turkeys and 1 lone peacock...I have more than enough for my DH and myself and know I'll be up to my ears in eggs this spring. Half of those chickens are still young and not laying yet. I do have 2 I'll be turning into stew soon, and 1 roo who will be heading there soon after. However.....I did get my first chick catalog in the mail today!! Gonna go drool over the chickies.....Have fun shopping this year everyone I'm gonna try and not order.... its so hard not to tho!

Well I put an order in for 24 chicks plus the freebie chick for McMurray due in early March so they would come right around my bday

) The ones from McMurray are a variety of breeds.
Then I rediscovered incubating eggs...so now I have 3 staggered hatches going on and I don't know where on earth I will put them all, if I get decent hatches LoL! It is a good thing dh has good carpentry skills or we'd be in big trouble. I will have to surprise him some new power tools...that will usually get him in the mood to build something

LOL I just went on the IDEAL website and was showing DH the cheap prices.. he was like "wait I thought we weren't getting more chicks this year? " LOL......oh boy I better go convince him otherwise...

oooohhh good idea.....hmmm in that case I would like some welsummer hens then to go with my free ROO i got last year from murray mcmurray and some more partridge cochins, i got one at auction and shes so tame I pet her when i collect eggs, and some silkies and some more bourbon reds and some more buff orpingtons and.............

Just tell him you can never have enough Chickens or the others are getting old or your scared something will happen to them so you need extras just in case

My dh thought we were'nt gonna have any baby chicks till March

Then I ended out dragging out the old incubator and he was like whaaat? Then I got another one for a hatcher...So I think I'm in trouble now.

I started last year with a small incubator and 4 birds but ended the year with a huge incubator and hatcher and around a 100 birds. I didn't get started till March though . Pace yourself

My first '10 chicks hatched today

15 fluffy butts to check how good my roos are doing..15 eggs went in 15 chicks came out so I guess they are ready for spring.Filling the bator tomorrow with EE's oh I'm ordering on Feb 1st the first day my hatchery will accept orders for the few chicks I don't have that I NEED

I just sent in my order for 20 ducks....4 different breeds...to Holderread yesterday !!! I don't have any duckies !!! I also got the new price list from Ideal. Had ordered a bunch with them last Sept and was happy with what I rec'd. Mine will arrive in mid March. Time to design their house ! I understand they're really messy little guys so perhaps I should stock up on duckie Pampers !
