I ordered mine 2 months ago. Getting 50 ameraucana chicks from chick hatchery (John Blehm's hatchery, he's really a breeder). I'm only keeping 7 though. I'm splitting the order with a bunch of folks.

Sorry I'm not closer. I've been looking for "chicken" friends.

I started last year with a small incubator and 4 birds but ended the year with a huge incubator and hatcher and around a 100 birds. I didn't get started till March though . Pace yourself

100 birds in less than a year? Whoaa!! But that is so gonna be me I can just see it now lol.

Did someone mention ducks? I want ducks!! There are feral muscovy ducks around here with babies in the spring but I wouldnt even try it because they (the parents) have some evil looking claws. I want nice ducks. Good thing the bater will be full again after I get the next batch of eggs. Of course there is always the chicken swap at the feedstore next month

I will be getting my chicks from McMurrary sometime between Jan 31 and Feb 2!! We CANT wait.. we were going to hatch our own but.. got really cold and the girls were like NOPE.. egg factory is shutting down LOL

Oh well... will able to get the RIR and NHR I was needing!!! By spring.. will have a total of 12 RIR hens, 1 RIR roo, 12 NHR hens and 1 NHR roo... CANT wait for the eggs LOL

Hatchery....ummm no thanks. My incubator has been running for over 2 months and I have over 70 silkie chicks in the house already. Ducks and geese should start laying in March. Turkeys and peafowl start in May. Thinning out the pheasants and quail. It will just depends on how many babies I want to raise. I have a feeling I'll be feeding alot of eggs to the cats.

LOL this is my year of the eggs again. I'll only be hatching, from Destiny -yay, for silkies, from Halo for BBS Rocks and some w/bw ameraucanas, some dark brahma eggs if I can find them, and my own chickens. I hatched way over 100 birds last year, between bators and broodies. Culled to 30 and am set to do it all again. I got a LOT better at selling off extras and culls last year. And better at butchering - yay.

But I well, really never stopped hatching, hardly at all. I didn't incubate anything in December, though a pair of broodies did. And now I've a bunch of found eggs in the bator and three broodies. Two on one nest. I was supposed to stop at some point that never really did show up... I did unplug the antique redwood bator to finish fixing it up.... maybe that counts.

LOL but yes Ideal is the devil with it's small order availability, sales and that darn catalog.

I recieved 15 Silkies from ideal poultry December 2nd, and just recieved my second order of 25 Porduction Reds on the 28th of this month. This is the first time I have ordered chickens and my son needed them 6 months in advance ofthe fair so we did it this early. I also wanted to get the production reds early so that they started laying in early summer.
