It's "Mischief" night...

People are afraid to come up our driveway, I think it must be the vicious dogs.

Though we get the occasional idiotic sales person.

Nothing on mischeif day though, thankfully.

It is celebrated( if you can call it a celebration) the night before Halloween. Pre-teens or young teens go out and cause mischief, or pull pranks. The most popular are egging houses ,shaving cream or soap on windows, toilet paper thrown over trees and bushes, Knocking and tapping on doors and windows ,smearing doorknobs with vaseline, knocking over maiboxes, and smashing pumpking.

it's called 'devils' night' here and it comes from Halloween originally being called 'All Saints Eve'.

they get their devils out before the saints come to get 'em, i guess. they don't put up with too much out here in the boonies.

in the city, we used to have people that sat on their roofs waiting for the pranksters and would turn the hose on them!

Nobody ever bothers us here in the boonies LOL. We will get one trick-or-treater tomorrow and that is our neighbors little girl who takes care of my birds if I have to go away for the weekend. It's kind of nice

night is such a wonderful tradition that I celebrate with a large bonfire with a few from my clan. I hope a few lost souls show up to share the evening with us.

Devil's Night is a long-standing tradition predating World War II, with anecdotal incidents occurring as early as the 1930s. Traditionally, youths in Detroit engaged in a night of criminal behavior, which usually consisted of acts of vandalism (such as throwing eggs at the homes of neighbors, scribbling on windows with bar soap, or stringing toilet paper in trees). These were almost exclusively petty vandalism acts, causing little to no property damage other than perhaps a damaged mailbox or eggs hardening on windows. These acts still go on today.

i am originally from Detroit. the problems that ensue are not cute and funny anymore. they call it Angels' Night now and have to patrol the streets due to the horrible building and house fires.

we just move out from the burbs to the country and it's a huge relief.

literally hundreds of fires every year. they have reduced it due to the patrols, but it's still nuts. they have really early curfews and arrest any offenders.

we would hear gunshots going off all night. there are kids who sleep in bathtubs because of the craziness in Detroit during these events.

and it's not because they are celebrating for 'religious' reasons, it's just an all out riot.
