I started reading BYC right before I got chickens in February. 6 little fussballs.

I kept reading about people who were obcessed and kept getting more chickens for no apparent reason. Well that was NOT going to be me!! I had 6 lovely girls that we hand raised, spoiled and rejoiced over eash glorious egg. We built a nice coop and run, we have taking care of them down and get plenty of eggs. I really felt great about our little flock.

Untill a couple weeks ago.

I got the itch.

I just picked up 5 more 6 week old chicks.

Ha! I did the same thing. We started with 5 RIRs. Then we brought home a Belgian banty chick from a community event in the spring. Aaaand now I'm looking into getting some Easter Eggers.

I think chicken addiction is more contagious than the flu!

Started with four, got five more last weekend and dreaming of doing some hatching in the spring. Never thought about owning chickens till last spring.

You know, it's so funny. I get questioned so often from people about why I have/own chickens! How can you explain to someone who doesn't have any chickens of their own?! I simply answer back, "Why don't you have any?" How can you explain it? It's truly an addiction!!! My DH finally took the bator away from me! But it was only 4 batches this year! Couldn't I do just one, I promise, just one more batch, I swear!!! I still haven't gotten my bator back yet, darn! Anyway, welcome to the madness:)

We started with four rescue chickens - I know have 13 chickens. Its really not my fault, once you build a coop - well you might as well build as big as you can, righto? Then, given all that room, its a shame to waste it? More chickens means more warmth in the coop at night? See, its for their benefit, really. I'm only thinking of them.

My best friend just doesn't get it. Of course, she's a few hundred miles away, and cannot see how adorable they are, what funny things they say and do, or derive benefit of the awesome anti-stress aura emanating from the flock.

She has also lost track of which name goes with which chicken.

I must admit if I had to list them right now, I would miss a couple, but when I'm looking at my flock, I know the name of each member!

Awwww... I'm jealous! I live in town on only a half-acre, so I think the six fuzzybutts I have are our limit.

Enjoy your new babies!

I don't understand why people are so interested in the exact NUMBER of chickens I have. Does it really matter? What is the difference between 15 and
30 chickens? Perhaps more food and a larger coop/run, but why should they be concerned?

Welcome to chicken math!!! They are so easy to take care of and are pure entertainment. LOTS of my friends "don't get it" and their mentality boggles me. I can't believe it took me so long to get into chickens...I want everyone to get into them! We get so many visitors now just to see our chickens...we should charge admission!
