I'm beginning to think there are more Western Tragopans in captivity than there are Grey Peacock hens.

Hi Dan, any suggestions on what to hatch along with my Edwards or will they be fine on there own..

Thought about hatching some bantams along with them to help teach them to eat, but i have mutant pheasants to which they seem to have no problem figuring out what to eat and drink would the other pheasants be best to hatch with Edwards, Ive never worked with Edwards before.

got 4 eggs in about a 5 day period so far..she skipped the next day after the first one but got one everyday there after. would like to set them in another 3 days or so

Thanks
Charlie

I have had some eat on their own and I've also used a silkie or a sebright chick with them (just in case!!) or if I was lucky enough to have both species laying at the same time, an Amherst or Golden. The Edwards are quite small, so the ringneck chicks might bully them - for a while. Like most Lophura chicks, they do gain their confidence and begin to rule the brooder at a few days old.

Another option, try some small mealworms placed in a shallow pan of crumbles. The birds see the "crumbles" move and pick a it. Also try finely diced hard-boiled egg.

Good luck!!

Tony,
(Or anyone who knows)
I have a Q....
My impeyans have NOT laid an egg yet...this will be their third spring...is that normal?

Ok, now I'm confused. The word "egg" seems to be replaced with "rooster". Regarding my post above this one, I don't recommend feeding a finely diced rooster to your pheasant chicks - that would just be too messy!!

Donna,

Although some will start their second year, it isn't too uncommon for Impeyan to not lay until their third year. They usually begin in late April or early May. Stress, bloodlines, and other enviromental changes can also delay their beginning to clutch.

Lol...(finely diced rooster...hmmm wonder if I type rooster will the word e g g show up?)
Anyhoo, thanks for the heads up on the impeyans. Mine are incredibly friendly (Bonnie and Clyde) What kind of nesting area do you recommend? (tree? logs?)
Thanks, Donna

they have not a drop of aggression in them and should work well hatching with the Edwards..
