the way chickens love chicken.
I just threw three leftover pieces of baked chicken out to my flock.
I'm

at the hen that's running around with a whole thigh hanging from her beak, playing keepaway.

Ms.FuzzyButts :

Pheew!! Glad I am not the only one that feeds chicken to the chickens!! I wish I could have seen her running with that... Bet it was hilarious,

It's good protein for them and they have no idea if it's actually great great grandma Ethel that they're playing keepaway with.

I was just reading last night that you should not feed chicken to them? It said that it would/ could spread disease. I am sure that the chicken books just tell you this as a precaution but have you or anybody had problems with this? It was the Gail Damerow (? I think thats her name) book about raising chickens.

Sorry, but I just don't believe in that. The chicken was cooked. They've been feasting on it since they were young (maybe 6 weeks old) and always get the leftovers from thankgiving, including the turkey carcass. This past Christmas they also got the ham bone, but I probably shouldn't have given them that, due to the high salt content.

I remember (before I had chickens) I went to a guy's house and he said, "Watch This!" as he threw a freshly laid egg on the ground in front of a bunch of hens. My wife and I were TOTALLY SHOCKED to see them all attack it like they hadn't eaten in months. I remember it was very eye opening and disturbing!

Of course we all know better than to teach hens how to crack open eggs to eat!
