I am looking for bantam size blue/green egg layers. A local breeder is selling Araucana (female) X Pekin (bantam Cochin) chicks. Is there a chance that these EE's will lay coloured eggs? Does the colour egg gene need to come from the father? Thanks for your help.

Just found the information I needed thanks. Think I will take a chance and buy the chicks. They should be interesting looking if nothing else! Father is a little pekin ( cochin bantam for those in USA) and mother a lavender araucana. Regards

They sound so cute! I'm going to do the reverse- banty araucana x cochin

Egg color is set by both parents. The daughters should lay green eggs. I have Barred Rock rooster x Blue Ameraucana and they all lay green eggs. Generally, a brown egg laying breed crossed to a blue egg laying breed yields green egg layers and it doesn't seem to matter which is the male and which is the female in the cross. I'm sure genetics folks will correct me here if I'm wrong.

Hi, kinda off topic, I have always seen people from Europe say "regards", I am not the brightest bulb out there so is that the equivelent of our "Thanks"?
If so then
Regards, Tamara
Those are very cute chicks!

Kia Ora, Tamara, from New Zealand,
'Regards' or 'kind regards' is used as a farewell greeting to an informal note or letter. I keep having trouble with language when posting on here!

My spelling is not recognised (even recognised is wrong!), colour, neighbour, chooks, fortnight, programme. Even though I watch some US tv programmes I still use language that is not recognised! Regards, Colleen.
