I've Killed It! It Never Stood a Chance! Graphic Photos

Yes, I avoided it by getting an eye dropper to put the water in...

Did NOT work out. I felt awful because it was a gift from my dad's...hmm...wife? At the time she was his girlfriend, but now they're married. Weird...anyway.

It was pretty and fuzzy!! Up until I got ahold of it...

I think it shriveled up a little bit when I took it from her hands.

African violets get root rot very easy. And sunscald. And cold damage. Cold drafts, cold water. And waterspots. And root rot maggots.... all mine did, I can kill 'em with the best of you, can you tell I have a minor in hort? My dear Mother could grow a jungle out of a broken leaf picked up from the floor of the local greenhouse. hahaha.

strangely enough, i've been able to keep mine alive in my bathroom. and i don't usually keep african violets living for long, but this one is probably going on about 4-5 years now and i've just recently seen it flower again.

African violets have fuzzy, velvety leaves - water causes brown spots. So if you want really pretty ones, water only at soil level, and sparingly at that. Out in the wild, most have really spotty leaves- but they are tough little plants!

Agree with Ranchie... but also check the potting soil for aphids.... they will sap the life right out of a plant...

I forgot all about my Christmas Cactus that has been in my truck now since Thursday or Friday,, it's been frozen a couple of times now but I brought it inside just a minute ago and it's limp and soft,,, just like a cactus shouldn't be.

Chickie'sMoma :

give it a couple of days and just trim back any dead leaves. it should be ok and re-grow again.

Trimming back sounds like a good idea.
