It's a diffenbachia- aka Dumb Cane, because if eaten it paralyzes the vocal cords- among other things

Does it work on teenagers and if so, what's the 'maintainance' dose for peace and quiet?

I am not good with plants and I don't know all the different kinds and all. The only thing I can get to live is Ivy and I grow them in quart mason jars that are all over the house

I tell people it's the country look

Anyway what I really wanted to say is this: If it is a tropical plant seems to me that it would thrive really well in the bathroom. Of course if it is a huge plant then you are going to have to move the toilet LOL

I'd say about 3-6 years...my house has got so much quieter since lil brother turned 7

Yeah...I would probably just remove all the brown or dying leaves...it should bounce back and come out with new leaves soon. If you miss cutting back any leaves or leaf stalks, don't worry...they will just turn yellow, then brown and crispy....once they are crispy they are easy to pull off the plant.

I have some plants that look similar to that....they're called Chinese Evergreens. They were the first houseplants I couldn't kill!

The first one I got free from someone who didn't want theirs any more.....it was tall and leggy, and the lower leaves had died off.....so........I cut the stems/stalks back to the ground and it grew back just fine! It took awhile to get good sized, but I've had it for ~5 yrs and it has done great. So I guess if you're really disappointed with the way it looks now you could hack it back and start over....

As for moving the toilet, that would probably be a bad idea. I've gotten used to where it's at, and at 3AM, I'm not exactly looking at anything, mainly going by feel!

I am being tormented by two - I mean, I am raising two darling teens of my own. (Just where did they get all that sarcasm???)
Teens can also be some of the most amusing, profound, and wonderful creatures on earth. Depends on their mood (swings). I think if we could have them neutered, at least temporarily, they might be easier to train, I mean, raise.

(I actually really like teens, neat new ideas and enthusiasm, but no really bad experiences yet to discourage dreams, just WOW, those mood swings!)
Oh, and so not to completely hijack your thread. I do hope your plant recovers fully.
I also need an application to join the Houseplant Killer Club, please. I just purchased two pointsettias, I plan on burying them shortly after Christmas.

I think the plant is still alive and will recover eventually. All those damaged leaves will die and new ones will come.
