I've looked and no one says anything about really loud clucking...

Mine get extra noisy once a week or so. They seem to have contests between my two coops to see who can annoy the neighbors the most. At least it isn't usually too early in the morning.

Mine just brag after they lay an egg. And it's loud. I should probably insulate the coop anyway...it would make it cooler in the summer.

This is the thread of the day! yes all of our chickens are special, some a little too special but special nonetheless.

Hello Lee Glad to see you here!

Thanks everyone! Yes when I finally had everyone busy eating blueberry bagels and a dead tomato plant they were somewhat quiet! And do your birds bend down in front of you for you to "ruffle" their feathers? I don't have a rooster - the hen house is just way too close to the house for that. LOL
AND sizes of eggs... if you weigh my eggs they are 2 ounces and 2 1/4 ounces - which according to the sizing chart says they are large and x large but they are no where as big as the store sized egg that I used for comparison... they are heavier when you heft them...??

Here is a picture of my eggs....

The first few times I heard all that racket, I thought it was labor pain. I was apalled that chickens had to go through such painful labor every time they laid and egg, which for some is nearly every day! My local feed store person assured me this is not the case. Then finally one day I was right there when a chicken laid an egg.....silently. After I left the coop, she lit up. I guess they just want the whole neighborhood to know hwo proud they are!

I guess that's all it is. I went out tonight and just as soon as they heard me it was a mad house and it was quiet prior to that. The Black Sex Links are really friendly birds... follow me around walk across the perch to be petted... I just love my chickens!

So - on the egg production, once they get going, it will be 5 a week for each one???? You mean, with 5 birds, easily 25 a week?

That distinctive "egg cluck" is how I knew I'd gotten my first egg. I was lying in bed & heard "it" (our coop is about 20 feet from our bedroom window - urban coop). I ran out, held my breath, and opened the door to find a perfect little egg in the nesting box.

I love hearing the egg cluck!!
