I've never seen this in an egg before

My mom sent me a photo tonight of one of my eggs that she had hard boiled. A hard brown ball was inside left on the cooked white. It's from one of my RIRs, and there isn't a rooster around for miles. Never had anything turn up in their eggs before. Any idea what this thing is? Thanks

Looks like a decent size chunk of ovarian tissue. There happen with various size pieces from time to time. Commercial eggs are candled to remove any like that from the production line, but they happen just as often with commercial operations. It's not embryonic, so the rooster or not doesn't make a difference.

She might have a little irregular laying after an egg like that, or she may not even skip a beat.

Hmmmm.....did she try cutting that 'ball' in half?
I would be curious to see what was inside, might give a clue as to what it is.
How old are your hens?

Thanks for the info. I didn't have a clue what it would be.

When you slice it in half, it looks like you cut some type of organ or tissue apart. Actually looks kind of like a cooked mushroom sliced open. It isn't marble hard, but more tough like a gizzard. Has what looks to be almost a stem at the top where it was connected to something. Hens are coming up on 2 years.
