Ivermectin

I spoke with the people at the local feed store and they gave me a bottle of Ivermectin that is normally used topically for horses and cows. Its enough to treat like 100 chickens.
I applied it directly to the legs after brushing them gently with some warm soapy water. I repeated this weekly and have just finished doing it for the third time.
When is she free of the mites and how can I tell?
When can she be integrated into the flock?
Thanks

Put 2 - 4 drops of ivermectin pour on on the back of the bird's neck. This will be absorbed through the skin, and will kill all mites, lice, and scaley leg mites within 3 days. You should treat all roosts, nests, any cracks in the floor with a pyrethrin based spray or dust. This should eliminate the pests till the next infestation.

soak the legs in warm water, remove as much crust as possible, coat/ drench with vegie oil, repeat every 4 days for 2-3 weeks.

Ivermectin works for lice/ mites/ worm, we use cattle pour on type, 3-4 drops back of the neck for larger chickens, 1-2 drops for bantams and younger chicks.
Does putting it on topically worm the birds or does it have to be put in their water?

What type of worms are you trying to treat?
Are you in the US?

Ivermectin from what I understand has lost it's effectiveness when treating worms.
You can use Valbazen or Fenbendazole to treat most worms that poultry have. Dosage and amount of days is dependent on the type of worms you want to treat.

I am in the US. I have 1% Ivermectin cattle drench that I put 4 drops on my bantams shoulder/neck area. I don’t want to make them sick by overdosing them with something else orally....

Do your chickens need to be wormed?
Ivermectin can be effective in treatment of Lice/mites. For 1% Ivermectin Pour On for treatment of lice/mites you would apply topically (content with the skin at the neck) 0.09ml per pound of weight. 1% Ivermectin Injectable can be given orally, by injection or topically at 0.045ml per pound of weight.

For treating worms - I would use Valbazen or Fenbendazole (Safeguard).
