ivermectin

Ok I have heard a lot about ivermectin and using it to treat birds for lice, mites and worms. So I ordered some but I'm scared I'm going to over do it because there are so many different types and strengths out there so I'm not sure how to properly dose it. If any one can please help I'd be so greatfull. it's

I use invermectin for small parrots where you mix the bottle with a gallon of water. I also have invermectin that you drop on the back of each ones neck. Im not sure if you can overdose them. I probably did.

Chickens must be really resistant to Ivermectin toxicity, because the range of doses recommended here is amazing! I use the 1% injectable, and dose at 1ml. per 80 lbs. body wt. That's about 0.1 ml. per 6 to 8 lb. chicken, either orally, or on the skin over the shoulders. It's not approved for use in chickens, so there's no official withdrawal time; I throw eggs away for about 8 days, because I feel better about it that way. I think it's safer than some other off- label products, that aren't approved for either humans or any food animal species. Mary

Thats the same stuff i use i take a dropper and drop three to five drops on each neck. Ive also used more for feathermites.

ok so this is safe and I just use a few drops right? You wouldn't happen to know the dosing for dogs would you?

Id use three drops for bantams and 5 for standards. Not sure what it would be for dogs though.

Do you know if it kills the mites/lice eggs or do you have to retreat in 10 days to kill any lice/mite hatchlings?

Permethrin spray works great, and is approved for use on chickens, unlike Ivermectin, not approved at all. After finding permethrin spray for mites and lice, there's no reason to use ivermectin for this. It works, but it's better to use an approved product.
