I wonder also how much thre weather plays a part. I used 2 different brands of plates last year with 2 healthy batches of chicks. Temps were up to 85 during the day and no lower than 65 at night the first few weeks. I brooded in July. This year will be the end of June so hoping for similar temps.

I'm sure it did. My March chicks faired far worse than the April ones and most were shipped from the same states. Heck the second d worst batch shipped from Idaho. Which shares a border with us.

But March was awful, and April wasn't too bad (think the only doas from April besides the delayed box were some super runty chicks)
 
Have a friend coming to get the last orpington girl (male will follow in April when she has a set up for him ready) and her mom might pick out another hen or two so she gets normal sized eggs finally (the bantam culls from last year are laying their Itty bitty eggs with her)
