Jake the BIG BAD Australorp Roo

This big boy attacked me one too many times, I was gonna get rid of him till I read how and how much trouble it was, decided I didn't want to do that.....Soooooooo I took his hens away and put them with my other rooster Big Ben.............He sure changed his tune when I did that. I raised that big bird and could handle him all the time till I put hens with him, like him before, still trying to descide if I am gonna keep him. I couldn't even get near the pen without him coming at me with them feathers all in a huff........So he is all by himself for a while.....anyone had this problem?

Oh yeah...I had HUGE Black Copper Marans rooster. I bought him just before he reached maturity. Before he even crowed. Then the testosterone hit! BAM! I couldn't go out and tend the flock without him charging right at my face, or stalking me behind my back. Several times I had to use whatever I had in my hand to block him from going right for my face. Soooooo, he's gone! I sold him with a few other hens as a package deal, and I haven't missed him one bit. And I did warn the new owners about him.

I actually had to carry a rolled up magazine everytime I went out to tend the chickens......he really took all the enjoyment out of my backyard hobby......I'm glad he's gone.

The only time my Australorp roo, Lucifer, has ever gone after 'me' was when I wore my brand new blue boots into the run. Terrified him half to death. But it's just the boots. Step out of them and he's trying to protect me from the devilish boots. Sometimes if I'm reaching down and he's under the coop, he'll fluff up at my hand but that's completely him being surprised at my hand showing up out of no where so fast. My point is that he's still a good rooster. I can pick him up and carry him anywhere or flip him on his back and carry him like a baby.

That being said, there's no need to keep a bad rooster. If you don't want him, or don't want to do him in, put him up on craigslist and I'm sure you'll find someone who will either want him for a free range roo or dinner.

My Black Australorp Roo is the BEST!!! He's about a year old and while he's not what I'd call "friendly", he would never attack me (unlike my Sultan roo who is now gone. He was pure evil). He is the first to sound a warning when necessary, he always makes sure the hens get all the tasty snacks, and he's absolutely STUNNING to look at. Love that green sheen on his feathers...

Back to the original question though... My Sultan roo, as I mentioned, was evil. I took him out of the coop and he is living alone at my friend's brothers farm until auction day. Didn't make a bit of difference. Nobody can go anywhere near that coop - he stomps his feet, flys at you, etc. Sounds like you are having better luck!
