James Marie Farms Bird Discussion.

They are all good eatin. The a&ms i dont think i will ever do again.... i had a slew of em from robby at one time i did for about 2 years... they are just much more problematic vs brown birds... the white birds tend to fight way more. I had no problems with his brown birds.. they were easy...

I prefer browns too, but am gonna do a set of A&Ms just for the heck of it. I have heard that whites have more problems as well. I have kept english and a&m, but in small quantities of both, so not enough to have any major opinion on them

I had the exact same experience with the A&M's

With the A&Ms, they need about double the space browns do... like with most quail if they are in tight living quarters they will fight... but A&Ms are MUCH worse about it. They will just flip switch one day to the next and you gotta cull em because they wont stop fighting after that. I had to watch mine real close... Its usually the females that fight, not the roos. I got down to where I had to keep one roo with two females only and had to match up females that got along with each other... It was a big mess, Id come home to bloody birds, dead birds, feathers pulled out everywhere... I got sick of em. The browns on the other hand... never one fight... the A&Ms were a bit tamer with me than the browns were, but the A&MS didnt like each other...

Meat wise.... the A&MS arent worth it either... I bred up my browns to where they were all the same size as A&MS dressed out...

I had to get rid of all my birds because we moved and we havent built our house yet where I can start up again... but if I do do quail again I will do browns and some other color varieties... I will not touch white birds again. AND I dont reccommend white birds for a beginner either.

With my A&M's I think you could have kept them in a football field size coop and certain hens would have seeked out some roo or hen to destroy. They were fine for the first year then they became vicious.

Yeah I have heard lots of horror stories on them. My pen that they will be in is 20 foot by 20 foot so that should help haha. And if I get a mean one I have a particularly racist pheasant who can teach it a lesson real quick. He hates white/buff colored birds. But yeah, Beginners are best off with just having some italians or browns to start

Ive got the jumbo browns coming but my more aggressive quail to raise I think is gonna be the tennessee red bobwhites. So any feed back is appreciated guys lol

Getting 50 JM Pharaoh eggs first week of April then 50 more 2 weeks after that. Great guy when we spoke to him.

Yeah, we were referring to just coturnix, the other species of quail are much more aggressive, especially bobwhites. Lots of people say that valley quail are vicious but Ive never had a problem with them
