James Marie Pharaoh vs. American Pharaoh quail?

Just from what others have told me is to expect a lower hatch rate with shipped eggs. They might be saying that so I don't get my hopes up for a large hatch and then be disappointed when it doesn't happen. And on the flip side if I get a larger hatch rate its like a bonus! So keep that in mind when placing your order for eggs that you might want to order extra in case you end up with a lower hatch rate.

From what I have gathered, assuming a good eggs source is used (i.e. good properly fed hens with fertile eggs) you should average an ~50% hatch rate. This fluctuates with your local Post Office handling and obviously with your own incubation expertise. Add a few extra to account for too many Roos so you end up with the desired number of hens.

Exactly Sid. There are too many factors out of your control and out of the breeder's control.

... those bitty eggs would have been used in an omelet before they found themselves inside of an incubator. But that's just me.

LOL Well yes, but those bitty eggs are the normal eggs my current birds produce. Can't wait to have a flock of birds that produce eggs like those I received from James Marie Farms.

Well, the sooner you fry those other (smaller) eggs and concentrate on the incubation of the JMF stock, the sooner you will have a flock of quail producing those eggs. Right now, you are mixing two lines. When they both hatch at the same time, you won't know which is which. Actually, that's not true. The larger ones will be JMF, and the others are the local.

Yes, the larger birds will be the JMF. Also I've got two incubators. I'm planning on putting the eggs on lock down in separate incubators and then into different grow out pens. Shouldn't be an issue. It will be nice to have some of my current stock growing out at the same time for comparison.

What incubator do you have?

I have a Dasp 48 Egg Hatchery - 100% Automatic Poultry Incubator -2012 Model. I have to see if it has quail rails but I should.

Also, be sure to get good feed for your chicks.  Purina Startena is available locally where I live and it is cheaper, in addition to being better, quail chick feed.

I work at Tractor Supply so I'm going to see what they can order me.

The next easy housing option is ... a cheap plastic pet carrier lined with wood shavings.

I have a 4'x4'x4' wood box I made that I think should work. As for how many I want to hatch out I figure I might have a low hatch rate just because I'm a first time quail hatcher. So I'm going to see how many eggs the quail rails for my incubator will hold then I'll order as close to that amount as possibe.
Sorry it took me so long to reapond. I was sick :(

Tractor Supply is a pretty good place but, (at least ay my local one) they don't really have much in the way of "gamebird" supplies. Avoid the chickstarter. It is more expensive than Purina Startena and not as good either. The other feeds were wrong type for chicks.

My local independent feed store took good care of me offering the right gamebird chick feed at a great price. Plus, they really knew what I needed unlike the franchise stores which cater to horses, hogs, cattle, and chickens.
