So I wont be home Saturday....I can only check the mail, a locked box 4.5 miles from home, on Sunday now....I wanna cry, it's supposed to snow, possibly down to this elevation. And they may be sitting there in the lockbox....

I'm sorry for those of you that were supposed to have eggs to set today:( Hopefully soon you will have eggs in your bators:)

Well my eggs are set and temp is is 98 on the mesh and 100 at the top of the eggs, hopefully soon it will be 99 on the mesh and 101 at the top. My humidity went from 36% to 55% after I set the eggs. I'm thinking this is probably normal from the addition of moisture from the eggs. It should be fine, right? I've read some people keep humidity at 30-35%, others keep at 40-45% and studies that say it should be 55-60% during the first 18 days. So I'm assuming it really is a matter of preference.

Day 1 is going great so far. It only took 5 min to get back to temp after the first egg turn. So now I'm not sweating the temps while turning anymore!

After losing all my chickens to my ferrets in September I have now got some more eggs that I have set on Thursday so just short of new year! hatch due around 20th Jan they are 6 light sussex bantam eggs from Ebay, candling before incubation showed 3 had loose air cells so not too hopeful on those but we shall see, will keep you all posted and will be watching this thread to see others

I am setting some eggs tomorrow (Jan. 1st) : Bantam cochins, Marans, Silkie, D'Uccle and Javas. I think I will be adding some Ameracaunas to them on Saturday.

Oh I'm jealous of the Java's! I'll be getting some Java eggs once these hatch! Black, White or Mottled?

So, I am trying to get my incubator at a steady temp. Added some of my test eggs (from my hens, not actually going to incubate) to help make sure temps remain steady & don't spike. So far, temp has stayed between 99.5 and 100.5 If I can keep it that way I will set my Light Sussex, MF Cochins, marans & Javas tonight. I usually keep my humidity around 35-40% in my LG or Hovabator with forced air.
