Jan. 21st hatch day! I have chicks! Pics Added pg 12!

I closed the lid on my bator at exactly 12 noon today, so I am a day or two behind most of you. I'll be checking daily to see how you all are doing, and will post with any news here. I used the dry-hatch method last time, with a 58% hatch rate, so I'm trying it the other way this time to see what happens. Will keep the humidity around 40-45% till lockdown, then 65-70%. Hopefully my hatch rate will improve. I would be interested to know how the rest of you are keeping your temp and humidity, to compare results at the end. Good luck everyone, and keep your fingers crossed for me too.

What an adventure! I plan to post the story [still don't know the ending

] in the "Chicken stories" section when at the end.

ANYway!! will plug in my new bator tonight -- bringing my eggs to room temp and 'resting them' plan to set 28 eggs tomorrow - Jan 4 - so will be behind the rest of you. This will be my first official hatch!

Count on the "travelling 'bator" hatched one on the trip had 2 more pipped when arrived home last night and had 2 porcelain D"Uccles this am. Lost the 2 'damp' hatchlings found Sat AM that I put in the 'Brooder box' for the trip

-- should have left them in the bator, but might have lost them anyway since they were damp and at one powerless point in the trip the bator temp dropped to 70*

3 more of the "duds"

piped and peeping now , had to discard 2 rotten, and 4 quitters today and have left in 'unknown' status!! SO, 10 hatched, 8 doing well, 3 'likelys and 3 ,'maybes'.

I candled all of my eggs and 13 of 14 are developing!

I left the one in and I'll candle again on the 14th and if it hasn't changed I'll pull it then.

I can't believe I am halfway there! In 10-11 more days I should have some new babies hatching!

I candled yesterday and have 14 developing, 5 maybe's, and 5 that look clear. I'm leaving them all in until the next candle, just in case. I'm adding 6 more eggs on Thurs. I have no self control! Another staggered hatch... fun!

Hi all! I candled my 36 on Saturday which was the 7 day mark. I wanted to candle the 10th day but I had to go out of town and leave my DS to raise the babies (wonder if him having to care for all the "kids" is why he says he isn't having any of his own...does he mean kids or "kids" I wonder). ANyway, on day seven I had one that didn't look very veiny but it wasn't completely clear either. Another one was very similar, and my 6 BCM are to dark for me to tell anything. The rest look really good so I'm hoping for a nice hatch. I want them all to catch of course, but I really want the BCM and the little mixes that my son set. He's caring for them all while I'm gone so I'm sure it'll be the best hatch ever.

So how is everyone doing? I'm starting to get really excited! Only 1 more week and 4 days till lockdown! I can't believe 2 weeks have gone by so quickly. This time next week I'll be losing my mind with babies hatching!

Just candled this morning and they're all still doing well

Can't wait for this time next week

This is my broody's second clutch. She's a good brooder (not a good momma, though).

Hi again all-
I candled again last night for day 10. I was going to wait till day 14, but I was worried about the clear ones going bad so I wanted to get them out. Glad I waited, because one of them had started growing. So, I only ended up tossing 4 that were still clear.

I now have growing and dancing:
12 mixed-flock
1 FBCM good and 3 maybes
1 Ameraucana good and 2 maybes
1 BLRW good

Yay! I'll be back on day 14 with another update.
