so sorry for your losses is temps ok? maybe too low or too high? did they get chilled not dry enough when you put them in the brooder? these are the things that i know of from past mistakes that might cause loss like that.

temp has been gently flowing up and down between 90-95 F (using a meat thermometer to keep an eye on temp easier... out of all of them, I would have thought that the 3 with leg/feet issues would have been the ones to not make it(not getting to food & water as easily as the others), not the ones that seemed perfectly fine.

hoping and praying that we don't lose more of them...

Of the 5 eggs due to hatch on the 18th I have 4 chicks. Only 1 hatched with its belly button closed. When I woke up the last 2 were waiting.
I didn't have time to get pics of the ones from this a.m. but here are the 2 from yesterday.

Nice pics of the cute fuzzy butts! I have had to toss 3 of my original 7 due to 2 blood rings and 1 non fertile. We still have 4 in the incubator. 1 shows definite movement and growth! WOOHOO!!!

they are dark shells and I can not see into them very well...

The 2 science classes that have become "spectators" of this hatch are VERY excited to see a chick hatch!!!

Just lost chick #4 of 17, "Dozer". This one we have a pretty good idea how it died:
1) Hatched out with 2 splayed legs & curled feet
2) Kept getting walked & stood on by the other chicks
3) Even though we took a strip of medical tape and "tied" it's legs to be at the correct seperation, it was unable to move around very well, and thus unable to get to the water & food easily.
We tried helping it by placing it right beside the 1 liter food and water containers, but apparently that didn't help it any.
