JAN 28th HATCH!!! Who's with me?!?

Well, I got home from the show yesterday at 2:00 and we had our first pip, the fat little bugger popped out at around 6, our second pip was started around 4:00 and that one didn't come out till about 1:00am, but so far no more activity. I am tempted to try the float test. My temp is good and humitity is staying at 70. It set them at 8:00pm so that would be the 21 day mark. Should I wait till the end of today???

Let me know what ya all think.

Sorry to hear about the last chick.. Unfortunately, the last 12 that I had were all dead.. 3 had never developed but the other 9 had made it to anywhere between day 19 and 21 and then I guess they were too weak to pip..

I took the 14 out for the CNY hatch cleaned the incubator really good (BOY was it NASTY!), put new tissue down to absorb water (really need to get sponges!), put the 14 eggs back in and set another 18! Those will be due on Feb 20th! I had been gathering them since Jan 21 so it was either set them or cook and feed them to the chickens! When the CNY hatch is over, I will set the rest of them!

I REALLY need to figure out which PR's aren't laying hatchable eggs.. I figure, if I use Green, Blue and Yellow food coloring on their vents and have bands on their legs with the same colors, I can figure it out pretty easily... That's going to a long drawn out process... UGH!! I'm just tired of setting eggs that have NO way of hatching... Luckily I only have three of them so I don't get a TON of eggs to weed through...

I remember reading somewhere, Story's book I think, that if you set your eggs for like 3 days, candle them, pull them all out, throw out the unfertile, then do the same with the next batch of eggs, then you combine your two fertile groups to grow out. I have never really had enough eggs to worry about room, but I am pretty sure it was in the Stories Guide to raising chickens.

Unfortunately, it's not always easy to tell if an egg has started to develop at day 3.. In turn, you may end up throwing eggs out that would have otherwise hatched...

Not sure if that was the day he suggested might have been 4 or 5, I lent my book to a 4-H kid otherwise I would look it up for ya.

Now to whine: I want the rest of my eggies to hatch!!

I made some scrambled egg and gave it to the chicks a little while ago.. At first, they didn't know what the heck I had just put in there.. he like to chase my fingers and I got them to follow my finger as I "pecked" in the eggs but they just didn't know what it was... I finally picked a piece up and one of them attacked it and then realized, "Hey, this tastes good!" and all the others followed suit! enjoy the video!

I now had 3 peeps. We had to rescue one this morning. He was stuck in the shell. At first it was extremely weak, but started to pick up after a while. We will see if it lives. Some more are just pipping. I think maybe my temps have been a little low because my hatch is slow. But, I have plenty of time to wait it out:) I will just see what I end up with. None of my Americuanas have started hatching yet.
