I don't know how good it is but this is what I'm using http://www.harborfreight.com/thermo-hygrometer-with-clock-96417.html seems to work ok. I use a water wiggler with a probe too.

If you go to PetSmart or Petco, you can get the thermometer/hygrometer duo they have... I got mind from petsmart and they are almost perfectly accurate... The thermometer was dead on and the hygrometer was only 2-3% off.. Not enough to worry about... They are not digital but honestly, the digital ones seems to be much more inaccurate anyway...

i have 8 eggs that should hatch saturday

5 are from white legghorn hens and 3 are from buff orps. (not sure of the dad i have an ameracana rooster and an australorp rooster. hoping the ameicana is the dad

. )

does any one have any picsa of austra whites? i rlly want to know what they look like...

How is everyone doing this first week????
It is really hard to just wait and wonder! At least next week I can candle and see if they are doing anything!
I'm also really afraid my bum thermometer might have ruined this hatch... dang it...
it sure must have been the reason my last batch never hatched!!!
sigh... and I had a humidity of 20% so I added water when I set them, and it went shooting up to 70%, so I soaked out most of the water with a sponge real fast...
but it's still up there at 70... and you know last year I had the HARDEST darn time EVER getting it up to the 60's! what the heck...
but, I'm holding on... and still hopeful, and really excited that the pink eggs are so see thru that I might actually SEE some veins!
normally with the browns (marans and welsummers) I can only see the little squirmer when they get out a week plus and jump a lot...

I absolutely love the different color eggs we all get.. As a kid I always thought they were either white or brown... Of course brown eggs were always my favorite to eat.. yeah, i know.. They aren't any different except for the color but it's a mental thing.. Even now, the more "off" the color is (pink, green, brown), the more I like them...Outside of giving a few greenies to my MIL and FIL to take to my SIL's house on their way through, I've kept them for myself... I've found that most people look at me strange when i tell them I have green eggs anyway.. More for me! LOL

Today is day 3 and i ditched one of the eggs... I had our house thermometer in the bator just to see how close it was to the one i bought and I'm gladI didn't use it.. It's about 2 degrees off... So, I figured since i had the bator open, i would check the egg that I broke and put candlewax on and I'm glad I did... I didn't see the hairline crack in it and it would have rotted anyway... As soon as i got it out of the bator, it broke in my hand.. WHEW!!! That could have been a lot messier than it was!! I put the light over a few more eggs and only saw one that clearly had a little embryo in it.. It wasn't completely dark in the room and I didn't take the eggs out so I didn't really expect to see anything but that litttle bugger was in the perfect place to see it... Can't wait til day 10 to candle them all!!!
