Pip to zip can take 24 hours or more.. They need a lot of rest after pipping because it's such hard work to just get that first crack in the shell... SIT ON YOUR HANDS!!!! LOL

Ok, so sitting on your hands, hmmm, so hard to do!!! We had a bleeder hatch last time, he came out way to fast. I took him out and put some liquid bandage on his tummy (pushed the sides gently together) and shoved him back in his eggy. Thought for sure he was going to die, well, he stayed in his egg for about an hour and was back out, but no bleeding, when he was dry, I put him in his own brooder with just paper towels. Next morning, little bugger was still kicking. Sure enough he made it, no scar or anything. Anyone else have any luck with a bleeder? And what did you try (sucessful or not). I would love to write it down for my 4-H kids....

i purposefully set mine at 5pm so day 21 would start later in the evening....that way, by the time i wake up the next morning, it will have been "day 21" for over 12 hours already....that way i'm not constantly looking in the bator through the 1st half of the day since i'll be sleeping. i had to help a couple chicks out of my last hatch and it went quite well! i feel like a pro now! lol! and the chicks are doing great!!!
wow, day 7 (almost) for my OE in the bator! 1 week down, 2 to go!!
