Ok, I think I goofed, was I supposed to cut away any of the bottom portion of the egg carton???? Or do anything else to it? Also, I always feel like I am going into surgery, scrubbing up, etc before I candle, so I am assuming that wouldn't be necessary anymore?

Yes... Cut the top off (and the little flap to close it) and then cut the bottom off so it makes a small hole but not that the eggs can go through.. This will allow air to circulate around the egg and keep the temp consistent as well as allow oxygen to get to the egg better... As for scrubbing like you are going into surgery, just wash your hands with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer... Nothing more is needed...

I wouldn't leave the eggs in the turners...I would put them on the ground. :.

How many eggs are you hatching? If you aren't hatching very many then I'd just hand turn the ones that aren't in lockdown yet. That way they can have room to run around etc. I would just fill up the middle trough. Do you know which one I'm talking about?

I am only hatching 5 eggs on the 18th. 30 on the 28th. I leave the house at 6am and don't get home till 7pm (at least till the end of tax season) so I have to leave the 30 in the turners. the middle water would be the smaller one right? Is 50-55% ok for hatch?

Eta sorry I wasn't to clear about the turners. I am removing 2 rows so the new chicks can hatch. I was moving one row of eggs and stacking them to make room for the hatch.

I would just put the eggs that are in lockdown or what ever in a small box on the other side of the incubator, since you will only need 1 turner for 5 eggs. That is what I did. Other wise the chicks will get caught up in the turner racks etc.

I would go ahead and change them... If you have or can get extra cartons, then go ahead and get them ready and then just switch them out... Just don't drop any.. lol

Omg that is so sad!! Are you leaving them in the bator to dry? How warm is your follow up cage? I wonder what happened? I lost an entire bator full last month, they made it to full development then died prior to the hatch. So sad!!

well today is day 9 and since i couldnt take it any more i had to candle

We started a dozen eggs a week ago yesterday (7 plus 5 bantam). Candled eggs yesterday and i guess the banny eggs werent fertile to begin with but the others look good. We saw movement in at least two, which was really cool. I guess were due on the 29th. Pretty exiting. I havent hatched any eggs since I was a kid.

Good Luck.
