Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Chick #2... Very shy chick...

#3 is out but is all wet... broody let me take a peek, looks like it might definitely be a blue splash. I probably won't get any more pics until tomorrow. We have a storm rolling in & even though it's nice right now, it's going to drop down to 30*F uggghhhh I hate this up/down weather! I caught bronchitis because of it, on week 3 with a cough & sore throat.

This is just toooo cute!

This is my first time hatching eggs. I started my flock in June and have expanded since. Chickens really are addicting!!

Tonight at 10pm is day 21!! Last night I had a temp spike of 106F and I thought for sure they were gone. Well tonight I candled and they were all moving!!! Now when I look at them in the bator they are wiggiling! Hoping to have some hatches tomorrow. I started with 6 eggs. #6 was a dude I threw out on day 7, #2 was a day 11 quitter. I told my husband I would be happy to have at least 2 chicks hatch for my first time.

I learned so much through this experience and from reading all about yours. I'm so happy to have found this online community!

TO BYC!

Nice! I have the little giant still air incubator! My temperature is at 100.8 and changing (trying to stabilize) and my humidity is at 41-42%. Is this correct?

Sounds perfect..with the still air, doing just right. If it goes either down one or up one degree..I don't worry about it..tweeking with the knob can cause a huge change, and the degree either way won't hurt it. Room temps change..as you know, from day to night anyway. Humidity sounds great too. :)

Cynthia12, thanks! It was standing at 100.2 and now has gone to 99.5, I hope it stays between these two temparatures overnight since it snowed a little here in NC.

JD, mine go into lock down tomorrow. I'm all set up with my kitchen liner, and the air sacs are drawn. Oh man, there are two that are clear up the side, and the baby is alive in both. I am going to try something I haven't before with these two eggs. I have all of my bators being used, but I think I am going to take those two out tomorrow night and try hatching them under a real warm light in my brooder, and help them at the end of day 20. There is noo way they will make it on their own with air sacs like that. These sacs are almost to the very top. Pretty sad. The last one I helped, I thought for sure was deformed. It's head was flat on one side, so took a close look to see if the eye was deformed, but it wasn't, it was just flat from being stuck in there with a high air sac. Glad I helped it out. The head got to a normal shape. :) A nice little blue Marans.

Yes, that would be a good temp for over night. Hey, I lived in NC for a short while in my younger years. In Wilmington. Loved the trees there. This was way back in the 60's. Still remember seeing a lot of ponds around. Very pretty state. I lived in Florida, and VA mostly.

Cynthia, I just hope it stays that temp. Since it is a little giant incubator. NC is a very pretty state, PLENTY of farmland around here!
