hooray!! congratulations!!
a friend of mine is interested in raising ducks.... I will have to tell her to let me incubate her eggs!!! how fun would that be!

Thanks! I do put multivitamins in their water (not regularly like I should, but the get plenty kitchen scraps as well)
Ok thanks! I have everything here, I just need to mix up the vitamins, & bring it inside to administer it. I've taken a chick from her & gave it back, with her first brood, & everything was fine. I just wasn't sure if I should keep the big boy indoors or keep him with the mama. Thanks again!
I know people gotcha covered, but I just had a chick with wry neck recently. I bought a concentrated vitamin supplement NutriDrench (Poly Vi Sol also works) and gave it by beak 3-5 times per day. He was better in about 3 days, but I kept treating for 6 days and now he's fine. I wasn't sure what type of vitamins you are giving, I have the powder type but the liquid concentrate is important for wry neck because it contains selenium which assists in vitamin E absorption (I believe the powder type doesnt have this ingredient you will have to check)

I have selenium, super b complex, & vitamin e crushed up with honey & ACV (with the mother) - I smashed up yolk in the mix & have been giving it that. I'm really not sure if its ok to go back with them.. Maybe if I do this 3x a day? Put it back each time..?

Oh okay! That sounds fantastic, carry on!

If it were me and if it were only baby chicks, I would probably leave it in with them. But with the mama, I would be worried about it accidentally getting stepped on. They get disoriented with wry neck, often up is down, down is up, they walk backwards and it's very sad... especially with the addition of the leg problem, I would probably separate it somehow. Maybe give it a friend so it isn't alone. this is all 100% up to you!!

I really like using VetRap for leg issues, works way better than band-aids for spraddle leg

I didn't. It's your call, but I felt as long as it wasn't getting injured and was eating and drinking, I wanted it to grow with the other chicks so that I wouldn't have to re-introduce it later and have it go through the pecking order abuse. I did keep a close watch over the gimpy chick for a day or two.

Yes, this is why I want to put it back, but at the same time... this is how it stands on it's own :/

Thanks, I have tons of vet wrap. I'll check out the link. Gaahhh! Sorry to derail the hatch-a-long.

@Gen9 - best of luck with the chick! I think the wry neck is curable and pretty quickly. I'm hoping it'll hold it's head up soon. I would tape the legs straight for a few days to a week or two - whatever you feel is best. I feel like it helps strengthen the right muscles that help it stand straight. Mine was still slightly wide-stanced when I took it off, and continued to be for at least a month, but he was able to hold his own even with that. As he grew bigger and stronger, it became less and less noticeable. If you must separate it, giving him a friend or two sounds like a great idea. :)

not a derail at all, that's what we're all here for!! :)

off topic, video I just watched "True Facts About The Owl" I laughed so hard watching this, the guy's tone of voice is just hilarious to me.....
they are birds of prey basically the opposite of a chicken...
he does show an owl eating a mouse and a woodpecker so forewarning, probably for adults only, or at least screen it first.
I love all birds!!! they are so cute when they're little owlettes....

edit: omg he has a duck one edit2: omg dont watch it

edit3: this one you have to watch

Well I see this is as ever busy busy busy. Over 100 posts since I was last on and so am not reading them! I would be xeyed for sure.
Update - we are comming into day 7 - however like a few others on here our bator seems to be having some temp issues. - Those of you who were with me last year will know it was pretty bad I only got one chick from two tries and he died after a week! So anyhow I was thinking the temp may have been a little on the high side. Our temp gage says the temp is correct but when I go to turn the eggsthis time - sometimes they don;t feel that warm. SOmetimes only half the eggs feel warm like they have a cold spot so I have been rottating them under the bulb. I used to have another secondry temp gage with humidity gage attached but DH can;t find it? He also said that this time he is just going to let it run on the instructions of the Bator and if they hatch they hatch and if they don't they don't? I think it is probably because these eggs belong to his sister - he says better to make the mistakes with those than our eggs. - They are just PRs poor critters. I am thinking these will all hatch perfect just to spite me! All my lovely rare breed eggs died! darn!
