Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Well I see this is as ever busy busy busy. Over 100 posts since I was last on and so am not reading them! I would be xeyed for sure.
Update - we are comming into day 7 - however like a few others on here our bator seems to be having some temp issues. - Those of you who were with me last year will know it was pretty bad I only got one chick from two tries and he died after a week! So anyhow I was thinking the temp may have been a little on the high side. Our temp gage says the temp is correct but when I go to turn the eggsthis time - sometimes they don;t feel that warm. SOmetimes only half the eggs feel warm like they have a cold spot so I have been rottating them under the bulb. I used to have another secondry temp gage with humidity gage attached but DH can;t find it? He also said that this time he is just going to let it run on the instructions of the Bator and if they hatch they hatch and if they don't they don't? I think it is probably because these eggs belong to his sister - he says better to make the mistakes with those than our eggs. - They are just PRs poor critters. I am thinking these will all hatch perfect just to spite me! All my lovely rare breed eggs died! darn!

Good Luck OES.....I remember last year that your DH was really upset over the hatch..........I think it is your turn for a GREAT one.........................

morning
that explains why some of your chicks hatch so much after 21 days...mine hatch 20 to 22 days...usually 21 though

Also why I lost some that absolutely should have hatched.................They looked great at lockdown.
At least I have hope now that I have identified the problem..............

gen 9- Starlah was a star gazer- and would tip back and not stand she got better - I am sure yours will too
Thanks! I sure am hopeful. Your hen looks so adorable, is that a frizzle? Sizzle? Frazzle? Lol! I get mixed up with all those "designer" breeds, they sure are lovely though!
@Gen9 - best of luck with the chick! I think the wry neck is curable and pretty quickly. I'm hoping it'll hold it's head up soon. I would tape the legs straight for a few days to a week or two - whatever you feel is best. I feel like it helps strengthen the right muscles that help it stand straight. Mine was still slightly wide-stanced when I took it off, and continued to be for at least a month, but he was able to hold his own even with that. As he grew bigger and stronger, it became less and less noticeable. If you must separate it, giving him a friend or two sounds like a great idea. :)
I'm not quite sure what to do about that! I'll have to search high & low for some chicks. I doubt any are selling this time. Meyer hatchery sells now but I don't need 15 (or whatever their minimum is during cold months) Right now this is the set up. The brooder is under the sink... We also rescued a stray kitten, had to nurse her, so chick is safe from the kitteh, got it a snuggle buddy & a mirror... I don't think it will be enough, I need a couple calm chicks.. The other 4 are pretty fast & I think hurt this one already...

I tried to get the best shot I could, this chick is so wobbly. Looks like it was pecked at on the top part of it's beak.

Not sure if any one in this thread is in NC, but if you're not too far, I'll be willing to drive a couple hours to get this one, one or two friends :D
not a derail at all, that's what we're all here for!! :) off topic, video I just watched "True Facts About The Owl" I laughed so hard watching this, the guy's tone of voice is just hilarious to me..... they are birds of prey basically the opposite of a chicken... he does show an owl eating a mouse and a woodpecker so forewarning, probably for adults only, or at least screen it first.
I love all birds!!! they are so cute when they're little owlettes.... edit: omg he has a duck one edit2: omg dont watch it edit3: this one you have to watch
Sad Cat Diary LMAO
Omg you're so funny! We watched the owl video, the kids loved it. They'll probably like the cat video too. That was a good laugh, I think I'll sub his channel right now!

I put my stargazer in with my 3 week old chicks- luckly they didn't peck her and she straitened her neck and joined the group- there was only 2 of the 3 week old chicks. they were glad to have a 3rd.

Gen9, I'm in NC but sadley I do not have any chicks available at the moment.

I'll send you a message...

Yeah I'm willing to wait a little, in fact I think this one will do better with younger chicks because it's so mellow.

She's all black now, weird, I thought for sure she'd have a pattern! Yours is gonna look so cool when it's older!

I know, not a hatch a long topic but part of the whole waiting for fuzzy butts so figured I would fit it in here

I'll get pictures when the Momma lets me, but by my count we have 12 wiggly baby bunnies...
