Can I join? I set my eggs in the incubator Jan. 22nd so they are due to hatch Feb. 12th or so. I have a few Silkie eggs in and about a dozen and a half Barnevelder eggs in the incubator...all from my own chickens! I candled them all a couple of days ago and they all look good. One is a maybe but I'm sure the rest are looking fertile so I'm really happy with that! I am using an older LG with an auto turner. I wrap my incubator in a small blanket all around the edges to keep the temps more steady and I don't add water after the humidity gets up to around 50% initially. Because it started raining I doubt I'll have to add any water as the ambient humidity is pretty high. Anyway, I'm so excited to see what I get in two more weeks!

I currently have buff and sky blue guineas, candy corn polish, some of my buff orps, new hampshires, and rir in...they are already sold and a few bantams including silkies from my flock!

me too!
the ones hatching to day were from someones fridge- but I have finally put my own out due on the 13th yippee, and these are fresh my roo is now a man!!

I candled the eggs my little frizzle is sitting on...I believe one was from the silkie and one was from my mottled Japanese...anyway one quit but the other is doing great...hard to believe since it's been in the teens here at night....I have a few in the incubator that are due around the same time as "Peppers" baby so I'm going to give her the eggs when they pip

can't wait to see her with her chicks

your not going to drown them at this point...what have you been running you humidity at?
It says its been 31-34% and that is with no water at all..
i would wait until 19 at the earliest-

I live in eastern wa- desert here too wood stove going-
I will wait until they internally pip like Farmer Viola is saying.. what do you keep your humidity at? next time I will not be adding water! my shipped eggs seem to need a higher humidity though.. does anyone else have this problem? this is the second time and I swapped incubators..
I would candle them on day 18, 19, 20, etc - look for an internal pip, and when you see an internal pip, then increase the humidity and begin lockdown (do not open the incubator, it will cause a sudden loss of humidity). "Normally" internal pips should happen on day 19.... this is when you hear cheeping but see nothing on the outside.

here is an internal pip on a white egg:
Okay, that sounds like a good plan! They are white and tan, but I can see in the tan ones pretty easily as well.

this is what I do :)

day 1-18: add no water, allow the egg's evaporation to create humidity. ideally around 25-35% although as high as 45% is acceptable
day 19-21: (I actually wait for the internal pip, it should be on day 19) 55-65% humidity

I have noticed that depending on how full I fill the incubator, my humidity can run at different levels. For example in 1 incubator, I have 30 eggs when it will hold 40 total. That incubator sits at 29-32% with zero water added, I consider this the perfect range.

I have another incubator that holds 40 eggs, but it only has 8 eggs in it. That incubator is running much lower humidity, I have a small piece of sponge that I wet once per day to keep the humidity around 30%. Without the small sponge, that incubator will run at 10-16% which I feel is too low even for dry hatching....

hope this helps
