Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

They should be fine. Just get them warmed back up & continue on. I just hatched 3 batches in a staggered hatch that lost power at leadt 4 times & got to 55°F or lower at least twice.

X's 2! Don't throw them out. The are fine. They are pretty much grown, just absorbing the blood and yolk. You may have a later hatch, but they should hatch!

Ended up with 5 chickies on my first hatch of eight shipped Welsummer eggs! Very happy! 3 Hens and 2 Roos. One of the girls is still drying off. The mini Brinsea may be tiny, but I love it! Once a hatched chick dried off, I snatched it out real quick to make room for the others getting rolled around. Because of its small size the temps and humidity rebounded quickly. Setting some more eggs today

That's a great hatch for shipped eggs.and your first time? Wow.

More eggs being set..can we all here .. relate to that?

3 out... One of them doesn't look so great...going to give it a few hours and check it, may be curled toes and or splay legged... No other pips but I believe one or two are rocking....

Yes, my first time. I read up on everything here at BYC first :) The shipper did a great bubble wrap packing too. They shipped from VA to TN. The ones I put in today have me more concerned. They came from IA, but were only packed in an egg carton with shredded paper stuff in and around the carton. Out of 13, four were badly cracked/dented. Three more had some very slight hairline cracking, I sealed those three with canning wax. So I put in a total of 9 eggs including the 3 with some wax on them. Will let you know how it goes!

You might be fine.........................don't freak............:D
It is amazing how they can take more than we think...............
If it were me I would lock down on day 18 and hope for the best................
Good Luck.............:fl

sorry, had not caught up.....I see you received feedback already............
Thanks for the encouragement!! I candled one that I knew had a chick and it was still alive. Going on lockdown tomorrow afternoon.

Hello everyone!

I had a question I was hoping those more experienced with hatching than me might be able to help me with: I have had two hatches in my Brinsea min advanced. Both time I set 7 eggs. Both times there were no profound misadventures regarding temp or anything like that. Both times involved shipped eggs. Both times, the eggs arrived in apparent good condition. Both times, only one chick hatched, though each time that chick was vigorous and healthy.

This time, I made myself do an eggtopsy. There were fully formed chicks with absorbed yolks.

What is going wrong?

I live in a high altitude, arid desert. The eggs were shipped from California. I am suspicious that it is a some interaction between the humidity and lower air pressure suffocating the chicks in shell, but how do I fix it? The first time, I followed the manufacturers directions, the second I tried to operate on a slightly lower humidity and temp, as the hygrometer indicated both were too high.

Any ideas or suggestions? I hate to be killing chicks like this!

how much liquid was in the egg? a lot or was it mostly dry, just chick + yolk?
what humidity and temperature do you run your incubator at?

I use the dry incubation method (link in signature), I also use multiple thermometers and hygrometers to test for accuracy before I set eggs (then go down to 1 device)
I aim for 25-45% humidity day 1-18, adding zero water but allowing the eggs' natural evaporation to create and regulate humidity
day 19-21: 55-65% humidity

I also weigh the eggs on day 0, 7, 14, and 18 to check for weight loss. they should lose 13% of their water weight by day 18. sometimes the humidity is adjusted based on their weight loss (you can also check the air cell size for an indication but it is less accurate)

Well, Of my 7 eggs in lockdown. Only my d'uccle egg has pipped (put one of my own in as a control). The six detached air cell shipped eggs, nothing.

what day are you on?
