Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

An easter egger is any cross with an ameraucana to make a colored egg layer.

Yep.

There is peeping! And pipping! First two out the gate, numbers 15 and 11! I made paper towel wedges to prop the fat ends up just a tad, and marked the air cells to put the last side up. Both pipped exactly where I hoped they would, so that's exciting!

Do older eggs take longer to hatch in anyone's experience?

Come on chickies.

I am catching up, so maybe by the time I get to the end, you will have a chick.

Good Morning, I am on day 11 of my first hatch. I candled all 23 eggs last night. One was clear and one had the bacteria ring and no veining. I took them out. The rest of the eggs are moving and developing. Temperature seems steady between 99 and 100. Humidity always jumps for an hour after I add water and the sponge, then settles in the 40-45% range. I agree with my four year old that this is taking FOREVER! Can’t wait til valentine’s day. When I go on lockdown in a week, should I try to put something in-between the eggs so they won’t knock into each other?

Some people just let them have it with the other eggs. I just open the bator and snatch them as they hatch.., a big no no fir sine..but mine do fine at hatching after. Good luck, have fun.

What should the temperature be for a still-air incubator?

I use still airs. I have mine at 100. Then, if it changes a degree up or down, I don't worry about it. It stays pretty reg. during the day, goes down at night a bit.

I have a dozen OEG eggs and one egg from my Naked Neck hen and the other from my Buff Orpington hen not sure whose the father of them two though. They look enormous against the OEG eggs. lols

I have a friend that has the OEG's.. Those little birds are so cute, and friendly! I never knew they could/would be like that. I pictured them not wanting anything to do with a person. His little girls come right up to him. And, one really loves the attention..follows him all over. Too cute.

I have a third pip! And one of the marans eggs I set a day later has been rocking. Probably hears the cheep cheep of the pipped eggs and is getting in a hurry. :)

400
and the forced air seems to be on target too. Humidity had gone up to 72% which I think is a bit high, so I opened up some of the vent holes.
