Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

GEN9 how the heck are ya???:yiipchick

Just getting over a 2 week cold. I sound like a drill instructor right now from all the hacking haha nice to see some familiar "faces" hahaha... I should go back a few pages and catch up with everyone. There's just no way I could read 900+ pages!

I take babies away as soon as they hatch so the mom will finish hatching the other egg. they like to get off the eggs to walk the chicks.

Ooohhhh I'd totally do that but I have no where to put them! I have 21 chickens now (I did max out at 34 but it was really overwhelming for me because of the space) that is a really good idea though! Maybe when I get my own shed :)

I love hatch-a-long threads, everyone is so supportive of one another <3

So far, only one is a very obvious roo! They are 9 weeks now He has the comb and wattles to prove it, and the other 3 are looking more like pullets every day. They are getting in some copper on their necks, but none on the chest, and so I'm hoping I have 3 pullets here... 3 FBCM pullets & bonus welsummer pullet Mr FBCM Roo
I'd say you are correct. 3 pullets and one roo. Congrats! Thanks for sharing. I love to see the end result, that being your beautiful birds of course. I'm hoping to add a few more BCM hens to my flock. I just can't keep enough eggs to supply those wanting to buy them plus not having anything left for my breakfast. I've resorted to buying store bought eggs because I'm selling every egg they lay. I guess in a way it's a good problem. Hey it pays for my feed.

Okay so my yorkie wienie dog mix has started taking a interest in my incubator she keeps going to end of couch looking at it tilting head side to side then pacing and looking again its day 18 wonder if she hears stuff in there I cant ?

Going back & reading some pages, all I gotta say is, after reading about Max the turkey, I'm really missing out! I ordered a couple bourbon red poults from a local feed store back in May & the place they order from had a mix up, no poults. I was so looking forward to it but ended up joining the hatch a longs & hatching out all these eggs over the summer. Lol so I guess it wasn't all bad, I got to meet some great people here :D love BYC!

Sometimes if you peep at the eggs they will peep back, it's pretty neat. I'll try to find the video

Today is day 11/8 on 3 egg batches, I am already planning my following hatch. Since these are due on the 28/29 time line, I will probably set another 2 dozen on the 31 or so. The plan will be diff this time. I will use my eggs (none of the current in incubator are mine since my roo wasn't old enough) and more gray eggs from down the road then my plan is to be done for a while. (but who am I kidding?)

My roo he is feeding his ladies now that is a good sign, yes?

my hen's eggs and gray/green ones from down the road.

rayray, here's the video.

I have done this on day 19-20 & got some peeps back... If no sound then don't worry. They rest a lot once they pip internally & externally. If you have a bad feeling go with your gut! I have done assisted hatch before, the page here on BYC by Sally is a great guideline. I've read that 10x! The chick i assisted survived but turned out really weak & we had to put it down 24hours later. Brace yourself just in case, it's really upsetting, even for my husband.

Beautiful bird & neat looking eggs. Yes, that's a good sign. I have a 6 month old cockerel who is super greedy. We're going to eat him >:) One roo is enough anyway, with 18 ladies, my blue splash should stop crowing as much since there is no competition any more... Well, hopefully. My next door neighbor has 3 roos, a drake & one hen, my neighbor behind me has one roo, so it can get pretty noisy around here lol
