What is everyone hatching and when??

I think we are all over the calendar. Hard to keep track.

I set on Jan 5th. Due 26th: Brahmas, Silkie/Showgirls, 1 white egg (surprise cause I don't have any chickens that lay white) and 2 smaller eggs (surprises also). Don't expect a great outcome on these, since the Brahmas just started laying again and the silkie eggs have been refrigerated for a while.

I also have some shipped eggs that will be in this Saturday, but knowing USPS , it will be Monday.

23 eggs in the bator

18 are German New Hampshire ( shout out to Zanna!!) , and I added 5 mutts, three BA's and two EE sired by the Dominique Rooster.. Now the constant checking and re-checking and hoping the 21 days go quick

. A pheonix bantam would be awesome. Do you have pheonix parents?
Hay, at how old can you tell if a chick is frizzled?

Quote: Cool! I have never heard of Rhodebars before. Are they a cross?

Quote: Ye. I have just had 5 chicks hatch on the 5th of Jan and I am getting some Blue Leghorns in the post (

) soon.

Quote: Oh Brahmas! I love them!
hahah, I will have to keep track of you and your mysterious white egg. So you only have Brahmas and silkies and you got a pure white egg?
I have heard refrigerated eggs can work better in some cases.
Isn't is bad to have posted eggs sitting over the weekend in the post office? Here in Aus we do all we can to avoid eggs staying over the weekend.

I have just hatched 4 White Leghorn's and 1 bantam mystery on the 5th of Jan. I am also hoping to put in 6 posted Blue Leghorn eggs (

) on the 14th so am hoping to have some more babies early February. Along with the Blue Leghorns I am trying to get some more Whites but I'm cutting it fine.

I have a little frizzle baby 1 week old....she's got a few little fuzzes starting to stick out....don't remember how old her momma was when it was clear she was frizzled but seems it was within a few weeks of hatch!!

this spring I will be breeding my phoenix, buff laced brahma's, gold laced polish, blue orpingtons, ameraucana's and araucana's

we will be starting the breeding(housing) pens when this next rain passes....so exciting!! I love my birds

Rhodebars are the uniquely wonderful offspring of a shotgun marriage between the Yanks and the Brits. In 1947, British geneticists crossed Rhode Island reds (the quintessential America barnyard chicken) with golden brussbars (a rare British breed) to create an auto-sexing chicken breed with striking red barring and the ability to annually lay hundreds of extra large eggs. (To learn more about auto-sexing chickens please read the section on this website addressing that subject.) Rhodebars enjoyed brief favor in Britain’s commercial poultry flocks until they were bypassed by more modern hybrids.

HERE YA GO CLUCK...INFO ON ROHDEBARS. ALTHOUGH, I DON'T THINK THAT EVERYONE IS DOING THIS CROSS ALL THE TIME. SOME ARE GOING WITH OTHER MIXEX..HERE IS A PHOTO OF A HEN.

Looks like a Rhode Island red mixed with a barred rock..RIR in there for sure. They lay great, and I like different..so, a little different than the usual RIR out in the yard. :)

No, I have several other breeds. Including a mixed flock, which is where the white egg came from. But they have regiliously laid medium brown eggs.

I love brahmas also. They were the first breed I picked when I started. Hoping to order buff or dark brahma eggs for the easter hatch-a-long.

JD, my EE's are due the 25th. I think you knew that. :) We are close.

Cool, I'm hoping all goes well, I'm down to 2 eggs now.

I candled tonight.

Only 2 brahma eggs viable. The others, nope. But they just started laying, so not surprised. These were literally the first laid eggs of the season.

The silkies nope, I think too long in the frig (over a month). It was a test really. Just had a silkie/showgirl hatch out 5. So all good.

The 3 mystery eggs again nothing. Bummer, curious about those.
