Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

In this incubation and hatching guide (it's for goose eggs but it applies to chicken eggs too), he talks about seeing a "shadow" as the chick moves into position for hatch before it internally pips. you can see the illustration for this part way down the guide.

it is a LOT of reading but it helped me understand the process so much better!

here is an internal pip (on a white egg)

Oh wow! What a great shot!!

On the kitchen liner stuff, I get mine at the dollar store..all a dollar. For those of you that can't get it that cheap, you can shake the liner out, and turn it over..double the last.

you guysssssss.... my eggs are OUT FOR DELIVERY!!!

Could be here tomorrow. More EE's. Love to have different ones out there. I have a beautiful one right now, that I was worried was a boy for a while. It's a girl! Sooo pretty.

her eggs have detached air cells....all of the above is in the hope they will heal
I too have just received posted/ shipped eggs and I only had 2 of the 6 with detached air sacks and only plan on doing what I have listed.

. So I let them sit ( cool room ) for 24hrs. Then warm them to room temp. Then put them in the bator for another 1-2 days not turning them. I will give this ago thanks.
Do I have to lower the temp of that bator when I first put the eggs in then slowly increase it up to 37.5? or can I just put them straight from room temp to 37.5???

I think by "posted" you mean shipped?

these were not only shipped, but also arrived damaged (the air cells are detached)!

the air cell is a pocket of air that separates the shell and the membrane. what has happened to my eggs, is that the air is moving around under the membrane - it's not supposed to do that :(
when I tilt the egg to the side I can see it move like a bubble.

so, all the extra planning is in effort to make the membrane re-heal to the egg.... otherwise, if it doesn't heal into place, it is unlikely that it will hatch! I also don't lay them flat for hatch when detached. whole new ballgame
I'm in Aus and we say posted, but it doesn't really matter.lol.

Yes, I understand about the air sack, the level like bubble on the side when it's detached. I just didn't know you had to do so much. As I listed above ( read the other quotes above this ) I only have those steps.
The lady whom I purchased these eggs off even said she has had success with chicks hatching from detached air sacks at day 18.

Do not eat Tyson thought i was watching a vid about hatcheries and then I saw them killing day old boys. So sad they're are so many other options. The lady was picking up Li'l fluff balls and crushing there skulls and throwing them down a shoot. :,(

I've seen it too :(
It's horrible what they do to chickens in the commercial world! That is a big part of the reason why I decided to raise chickens myself. At least my chickens are cared for with love, and I am boycotting inhumane commercial treatment of animals.

Ahh, well, I just turned 40 and am too ignorant to get glasses, haha

That's funny, because that's about the same age I started to need reading glasses. I soo know where you are at with that now.
Sure was hard to get used to having those things. Only needed them then, so I tried all sorts of things to keep them near. Tucked in the shirt, then got those silly looking glass neck holders, then finally got bad enough that I needed bi-focales. (spelling is as bad as my eyes.) So, then I had them on all the time. It's been years. Used to glassed now. Can't live without them!
