I had to toss out 3 batches of eggs when testing my rooster. finally instead of placing in incubator I just looked for the bullseye in a cracked egg.

I don't want to waste an egg, I don't want to eat them just incubate

My eggs had a small bullseye when my roosters were young and mating but they weren't fertile. I tried incubating for 2 months. Not one developed. Then I noticed the bullseye get larger and more clear. My friend incubated 12. 11 hatched. 1 stuck to the shell during pip and died. All 11 chicks are healthy and about a month old now. I don't if this is normal but it was 9 different pullets, all the same small bullseye.

Has anyone else ever noticed this?

Does anyone use an egg turner in their incubators? If you do how do you position the eggs at lockdown? Do you just leave them in the egg turner but stop turning or do you lay them on their sides?

I take the turner out and lay them on their side.

Well, we have two hatched on day 20 and I'm hoping since today is 21 they all get moving.

Me Too day 16 so happy to see chicks dancing in there eggs lol, And then I have a couple more do a couple days after that actually there should have been 12 but there are only two that seem to still be viable. I am so scared of making the wrong decision that I have not thrown any away not even the obviously clear ones lol I keep smelling them though lol. By the way what does everyone do with there bad eggs?

I have not had a stinky one yet... when I have a clear egg, I wait until day 10 or so (sometimes longer, day 15) before I crack it open inside a plastic baggie, then seal it.

I JUST re-candled my 15 eggs that were clear and guess what, 5 of them have veins now! (day 12) good thing I kept them in!!!

If it's not clear, it looks like it started developing a chick, then I will break it open in a bowl by creating a pip, then a zip, then removing shell, then examining the contents ("eggtopsy") before disposing of it in a plastic baggie, sealed.

I usually throw the baggie in our burn barrel if it's going, or in the outside trash can.

I had my first stinker- I know if an egg is bad I don't need an egg topsy. that was a quitter from a while back. still waiting day 21 this evening. peeping.

Tonight is lockdown for me (finally)! I will post pics and an update later. I sometimes think the 3 day wait to hatch day takes longer than the previous 18 days, but I try to keep myself occupied so I can fast forward to hatch day. Lol.
