Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

3 silkies hatched last night!
So, I've got the two Cochin Cream mixes, and the three silkies. I'm super upset my sex-link Cream crosses aren't doing anything yet. Two other silkies have pipped. Humidity is staying perfect between 60 and 65%.
My girls get up every morning and run straight to the incubator.

Yay!!! How exciting. Please post pics of the silkie chicks when you get a chance :)

Thanks Chickydee what a great compliment! I had to read that one out loud to my DH.. Made me smile. Anyway,.... thank so much for the great info. I left them in the incubator over night and Oh MY Gosh what a difference a day makes. Yesterday they were wobbly and not that interested in my syringe dropper of Gatorade and today ....your right I never seen the chicks do this.. they are scared of me and my big head coming into the incubator but they love my Gatorade drops so one would run up and take a hit then run backward like a football player and run back to get a hit, back and forth, and back and forth so cute. They are standing strong, tall and feeling good today.. I am trying to give them the opportunity to snack and drink the stuff that I would be begging them to take in when they are starting to fail... I don't want to wait around for that... So now day 2, (I guess we are), and all looks good. I hope I am as happy on day 4.. the Silkies ARE more fragile then the big varieties. At least for me, with my limited experience. So I am setting up the brooder and will move them over sometime today...

day 21 and day 19 on my fridge eggs- 3 zipping others have movement but too much fluid for my liking- normally I dry hatch- this time I put a tiny cap of water a day in my homemade bator-but no more!

from now on DRY HATCH until outer pip for me- luckly my day 7 eggs won't be water logged.

I have dry hatched successfully many times.

I got an external pip this morning, and chirping. The bad news is that I've had trouble with the humidity level being too low (between 41 and 54%. This morning I was finally able to fix that... But I hope the pipped chick isn't stuck! I just didn't expect a pip on day 19. That's never happened before. I plan to help it out if it's not out by early tomorrow morning or late tonight. The rest of the eggs aren't doing anything yet.
The pipped chick is the one egg that had a clear cavity on one side of the small end. It did fill in some by lockdown.

When my chicks hatch, I give them the medicated feed too. I have tried oatmeal, eggs and anything else anyone has suggested but they never eat it. I do give them Nutridrench in their if they seem weak. I tried saveachick and it helped a little but when I have used the nutridrench it's like I gave them super crack. In ggod way. Is there a good way? You know what I mean.
Thanks Deanna, I am using the medicated feed but never heard of the Nutridrench so I looked it up.. wow that looks like great stuff..... I am going to see if I can find it in smaller doses. I would imagine you use very little of it right. I only have these 3 chicks but I want to put in another round of eggs but that will be a small hatch too. Maybe I can find someone local that can sell me some of their bottle.

there is always that one that needs help at home. It's nice to see them grow after

Do you do anything different for eggs that are water logged? like not up the humidity as much during lock down? or..? I have some Bresse eggs that are going into lockdown today that are a little water logged. I had water in my Brinsea 20 up until day 7 when I noticed they looked like they weren't losing enough water so I took all the water out and have had nothing in it and they still didn't get where they need to be. I can see them all moving in there.. This is my third hatch... ahhh I am excited and nervous! if there is anything I could do that will give them more of a chance will someone let me know? This is my first post here.. I hope it is okay if I join in? I know I am a little late since I am already at lock down.. I have another incubator with shipped Marans eggs that are on day 14 as well!

By water logged do you mean clear fluid at the pointy end of the egg??

If so I am having the same issue, today will mark day 20 and I have been advised to not going into lockdown until I have an external pip... One poster here told me that she had chicks hatch 6 days late so I have hope that they will fill out and absorb (or expel) the excess fluid

normally I dry hatch this time I added a cap of water a day- mistake- back to dry- I have a few on the way to hatch though these are fridge eggs.
