Just curious how it was going?

Interesting you should ask. Our granddaughter had to be hospitalized. She just can't keep anything down. She needed some much needed hydration..so they gave her a lot of drinks through the IV.

She is home now, still feeling sick, but it sure helped her feel better than she was.
Our daughter, that is expecting our 33rd grandchild, is doing great. This makes her 4th little one. She has all boys. You know what they are hoping for. Will find out soon by ultra sound what sex this one is. Doesn't matter either way, they make cute babies. Of course.

You cut the bottoms out of egg cartons & sit the eggs in upright (fat end up). You turn by tilting the cartons. It can also be done just at lockdown for hatching to keep babies from playing soccer with the eggs. It is beneficial for shipped eggs with loose air cells.

I've tried it, and personally don't care for it. I get shipped eggs. Maybe it was just that first time bad luck. A lot of them would pip right up against the carton, and would sit there and not be able to pip more. That was not a fun hatch. I waited, thinking they will make it, but no, I lost a few on that one. Some really like it, I must have done something wrong. I thought I had the cartons cut up the right way though. ??

I've tried it, and personally don't care for it. I get shipped eggs.  Maybe it was just that first time bad luck.  A lot of them would pip right up against the carton, and would sit there and not be able to pip more.  That was not a fun hatch.  I waited, thinking they will make it, but no, I lost a few on that one. I've tried it & didn't like it either. Others swear by it. Just another of those "what works best for your set-up things."

The line is spotty looking, not a perfectly defined edge like I've seen in the other eggs. Just off center on the wide end of the egg is a darker spot (shadow?) but I can't tell if it's moving, the eggs are hard to see through. I thought I may have heard a faint tap when I listened but I couldn't be certain. I tried to get a picture of the air sac but my phone is horrible for dark pictures so they all turned out blurry.

I'm just going to leave it be and see what happens, it's one of the eggs I've been most excited to see hatch.

One more question...

I'm using a LG incubator and am having a hard time getting the humidity up past 60%. We're mid way through day 19 and I have all reservoirs filled, a wet washcloth, and a dish filled with water and papertowels in there, is 60% okay? I have both vents closed because the humidity drops to 50% or lower when I open them, at what point is it necessary to open them during hatching?

Do you trust your hygrometer? Do you have a 2nd hygrometer to check it against? sometimes they are off (especially the one attached to the incubator itself)
To me, it sounds like you have the humidity plenty high, and maybe your reading is off... or maybe it is just because it's a still-air...

I would leave at least 1 vent open for oxygen exchange once they start hatching, they need to breathe air once they're out of the shell

My friends and I do chickens together. She is hatching some more of my egges, some of her fist and some she bought. Her husband Macgyvered an old cell phone as a wireless camera to her laptop. And they set it up so I can see too. The chicks started hatching yesterday while we were on our chick adventure. I haven't had much sleep because I have been watching chickies.

That is Awesome! Is it public / can I watch?

I have had some hatch at 50 and after a few hatch, the humidity will go up on it's own . Sometimes to 80.
It is important that the plugs be removed during lockdown....they really need the oxygen while hatching....
I don't know your set up......I move mine into the kitchen and put a pot of water to boil when I am fighting low humidity.
I can close my kitchen doors though so????????

Do you have a back up meter going? Reason I ask is the incubator I use has a digital read out for temp and humidity. I also had a hard time keeping the number up, I like you could barely see it go above 63% with the entire bottom filled with water. I put in a separate meter and it did read higher so I just took it out and stopped worrying about it. I really stopped worrying when I saw due dropps in several places on the see through lid.

33rd grandchild?? Congratulations!! That's wonderful you have so many!! I just have one granddaughter so far - 1.5 years old. Keep us posted when they find out if it's a boy or girl
