i swear our silkie is really smart. Being broody and all she abandoned her eggs three days till hatch. Long story short we lost them when they got collected. I candled so many eggs my head hurt.

so i decided to put her in a cage with new eggs. I moved her off her nest she had been on for about a week. She went in and i left. five minutes i came back and she was out of her cage. i put her back in the cage and locked it this time. As soon as the lock went on she started symtoms of wry neck i couldnt believe it. I started freaking out and took her right out. I put he eggs back in her nesting box. She stopped immediatly as she was let out and she went in the box. I swear that chicken is the smartest ive seen.

wry neck can be a symptom of vitamin deficiency, which is a real possibility since she has been on the nest... if it comes back I reccomend nutriDrench by beak a few times a day.. here is some info: http://oureggbasket.blogspot.com/2013/04/wry-neck-or-crook-neck-understanding-it.html

Haven't been on in a while, so thought I would see what was happening. I have a Black Australorp that decided to start sitting on the 29th of January, so we put some eggs under her. She has some Australorps, RIR, Barred Rock and 2 Dark Brahma Bantams to hatch, 11 in all. Should know something by the 20th. The Roo is a Barred Rock. I kept telling my husband that I wanted to go to the swap in March and get more chickens. He said I might get my wish if more decides to start sitting this spring. I hope to get a couple of little bantam hens, she is such a little sweetheart, wants attention when I go out. When I call her name, she comes running,

ours is in the dining room too....it's a huge storage tub not as attractive as yours...sitting on top of my antique truck so the dogs won't bother it...it's been in use all winter...my husband asked just yesterday if I'd being putting a storage tub in the dining room next winter?? mind you he's got chicken math fever too but not in the house!!

we don't want their motor and gun parts in the house- but you know what? chickens are babies ... they don't care for babies. attention stealers!
